From what villagers could see, the Indian attack had missed its target as the bombs dropped exploded about a kilometre away from the madrasa.

BALAKOT, Pakistan — Villagers near the town of Balakot in northeast Pakistanwere shaken out of their sleep by what seemed like an earthquake in the early hours of Tuesday, only discovering once dawn broke that there had been an Indian airstrike on their neighbourhood.

Indian officials said the raid destroyed a training camp of Jaish-e-Mohammed, the militant group behind a suicide attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir that killed 40 members of a paramilitary police force on Feb. 14. India’s foreign secretary said “a very large number of JEM terrorists” had been eliminated in what was the first Indian air strike on Pakistani territory since 1971.

The villagers, however, said only one person was wounded in the attack and they knew of no fatalities.

A resident, who did not want to give his name, said there was a nearby madrasa run by Jaish, though most villagers were guarded talking about their militant neighbours.

“There is this madrasa on the hilltop. The Jaish-e-Mohammed runs it,” he said.

Another person, who also declined to give his name, said the militants had had a presence in the area for years.

“I belong to that area. I know for sure that there has been a training camp. It used to be there. I know Jaish people ran it,” he said.

“This camp was turned into a madrasa several years ago, but no one would still be allowed to get close to this infrastructure. There are scores of students in the madrasa at any given time,” he said.

Set in a wooded, hilly area in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on the way to the scenic Kaghan valley, some 40 kilometres from the de facto border with India, Balakot was of many towns that was devastated by a massive earthquake in 2005.

From what villagers could see, the Indian attack had missed its target as the bombs dropped exploded about a kilometre away from the madrasa.

Mohammad Ajmal, a 25 year-old villager near Jaba Top, where the attack took place, said he had heard four loud bangs in succession just before 3.00 am (2200 GMT).

“We couldn’t tell what had happened. It was only in the morning that we figured out it was an attack,” he told Reuters after visiting the site, in a wooded hilltop area.

“We saw fallen trees and one damaged house, and four craters where the bombs had fallen.”

Fida Hussain Shah, a 46 year-old farmer, said he and other villagers had found pieces of Indian ordnance that had splintered pine trees on the hill but the only casualty was a man sleeping in his house when shrapnel broke the windows.

Such a shame on PAF so just they miss the target 'Is this the only excuse" Next time they will hit the target and PAF will come with new theory ....Have picnic in our airspace and went back...

The whole thing ended in just 2-3 minutes.

PAF response would good enough however it could be improved.

In fact these buggers missed their target because of PAF

In hurry they randomly fired shots and ran away.

Its not a matter of missed or hit....Was PAF scared to just follow them even for a minute on other side...Or simply PAF does not have will to fight....for what they are then....Please see there blunders starting from Kargil , salala and now this..PAF is really setting a new standards now a days...Its just pathetic one after another ...Look at army much smaller then IA and have the balls to do stunt like Kargil..ONE Can debate on its purpose but not there will to hit other side or encroach

Must be using their own version of GPS. What its called btw? Muttar navigation system?

Wow the truth is nicely coming out !
So from no bombs anywhere , and no iaf planes crossed IB.
now it is " they actually missed their target " and " Jaish is actually present in Balakot in a big way "!!!
Thanks for sharing Areesh . We need more Pakistani member s like you who expose the fakery of ispr.

PAF response was good. Enemy came to heavily bomb balakot. But failed to do that.

Yes it can be further improved. Yes at least 1 enemy aircraft should have been shot down. But overall PAF performance wasn't bad as we are making it to be

Enemy mission ended up in a failure. That is a fact. Further improvements where possible should be done.

ISPR tweeted hours ago that IAF crossed LOC and released their payload at Balakot

This huffington news is actually confirming what DG ISPR said in the morning

The PAF responded well, but that's not enough.

India needs to pay for this. Counter-attack.
pakistaní attack is going to happen soon in india.. paf boys are seeking permission from high command... they are very very angry.. let see where they will hit in india.. i hope they hit national highway which connects the kashmir with india.. and then unleash kashmiri on indian aramy..

So, it was KPK, some jets entered the area over muzaffarabad, chucked some bombs in KPK, turn around and left.. Been trying to get a clear view as the pakistan defense minster said 4-5 km on pakistan side and KPK is little far away...

Thing is, if PAF got the planes up in time and still did not fire a A2A missile to down a jet, no SAM activated between KPK and pakistan side of kashmir? That is what sounds little strange... Would the defense experts have a view on this?

I don't think Indian administration gave any numbers on casualty so far.. that is only Indian press doing drama and ofcourse this is election time, so there will be a lot of chest thumping going on.. but that is just noise and speculation, in my opinion

No Arresh ...We should name and shame this PAF...THERE is no accountability seriously. Who are they to decide if there action will lead to war? I mean what type of thinking it is....Anytime , it means they can come and go on there will....PAF has just handed over "ustra to bandar" now they will beat drums out of it.....
PAF has simply puts the nations down here...No problem in accepting the failure...instead of false bravado this PAF has created over a decade while failed continuously to defend our skies...they simply should not brag about there talent or skills from now on and keep there head down until they earn the respect back
