Facing dwindling numbers, Jaguar upgrade crucial for Indian Air Force

I feel there are ulterior motives of the brass behind it. The upgrade for about a 100 airframes will be chaeaper than buying 10 of these shiny new toys...

May be who knows? Mig 27 is a very potent aircraft and there is no doubt about it.

The picture shows quiet well, why this nonsense about squadron numbers is no real problem, since you only need 1 upgraded Mig 29 today to do the same mission, that you needed 1 Jag + 1 Mig back then. IAF should get rid of single role fighters like the Jags and Mig 27s, rather than wasting time and money on upgrads, that doesn't add more operational benefits. They already regret the money they wasted on upgrading 2 Mig 27 squads, which now have to be shelved as well, because they are technially far too unreliable anymore and they will regret the Jaguar upgrade soon as well.

We already wasted our precious time. It's due to internal situation, short sight approach of IAF and dumb stupid politicians. How do you expect to replace 100s of mig21/27, 50 Mirage , 69 Mig29 , 120 some jags ? Minimum 30-40 mill a piece not so long ago too. So it's all good and thank God for no major war took place. pray it won't for next 6 years atleast

Remember this whole MMRCA was actually mrca ? We where supposed to go for 124 Mirage during 2000 and before. later it changed to MMRCA. We already messed up. we should have bought jets before 10 years. but what will you buy those days? Only Russians jets were better offer we had. And no comparison for Mig29 and 30 . Now we have lots of platform but it's not the case before. Just think if we ended up with 124 Mirage 2000 By next 4-10 year it will be outdated technology to have. So for now upraded Mirage , Jags,Mig29 will be better options than spending some 50 + billions to replace all old junks . We are not America or Russia or even China. we have less money with more stomach to feed.

Anyway we will make up the number game with Tejas , sukois MMRCA in very short span.

Sections in the IAF argue it is wasteful to fit a powerful, new engine on 30-year fighters, many of which have already flown 4,000 of the 6,000 hours specified as the Jaguar's service life. Others point out that fighters are routinely given service life extensions, after inspections of the air frame.
It is old war plane better to give $ 2billion to Tajas MK-1 which is pay better then this

The DARIN III upgrade is going on for around 70 Jaguars but the re-engining is stuck because of this single-vendor situation. Hopefully the DM can solve this mess but, despite all his rhetoric, his record is patchy thus far when it comes to resolving procurement bottlenecks.

Let's hope the dituatioj is improved
Defense & Education is where the govt has greatly disappointed many hopefully the sucess in Infra will be repeated here soon
