Its called "Silk Route"...Just google silk route and than perhaps you will come to know its value...And just compare the cost of transfer of goods by road or by sea....Roads are always cheapest source to transport goods plus one can transfer goods in just 72 hours which means that its most economical and time saving as well.

i disagree, ship is the checpest, rail is next cheap and road most expensive. however, ship is more time consuminig. not sure which is faster betwee road and rail.
the reason ship is cheaper is because the the larger the ship the cheaper it is. In a ship the cube of volume increases to the square of resistance (in other words cost). so if you take the number 3. you can carry 27 units in volume to 9 units for cost. and itf you make larger to 4. you can carry 4^3 = 64 units of volume to 4^2 16 units of cost. So see the ratio.

In road/rail , the volume/cost ration is much lesser to increase in volume. This theory was first promulgated by Isambard Brunel (the same guy who built the London Tube) . Google him on this.

The article claims that Pakistan is a target because it is a corridor from China to the Gulf.

Actually, the Karakoram route is highly impractical and is closed for six months in a year because of snow. China already has pipelines to Turkmenistan, and extending to Iran would be easy if they wanted it. Pakistani territory is not at all required. Further, to transport goods to the Gulf from China's main economic centers in the east, ship is a much better and cheaper option.

Well look at that, you've got the Chinese completely stumped now. Here they were spending millions upon millions on the said route through Pakistan oblivious of the fact that its completely impractical. If only you had spoken earlier.

FYI, the KKH remains open throughout the year.

Nope, it remains open for all the 12 months of the year. Bottle necks are created at some points from time to time due to rockfalls, landslides and snow but usually it only takes the guys from FWO between a few hours and a couple of days to clear them away.
