Actually I think the "clamshell doors" are only on the M-8, the M-17s have hydraulic/electric rear ramps:

Quite right on that point, you are. Is that a mod on Mi-17s that have been modded to carry vehicles or is it a standard feature on the latest series of Mi-17s which are being inducted into the IAF? Have'nt seen them before. This is an interesting sighting. My guess is that it is electrically operated.
