The best map I've ever seen. Exact borders and population.

It IS rather good! Spent some time in fascination, letting it play again and again, watching the rise of the Macedonians, quite impervious to Rome growing up in the background, watching Rome systematically build its own empire, so much more permanent and effective than the Alexandrine Empire, then watching how the empire broke down, the incidents of the Burgundians, the Ostrogoths, the Franks, and the great storm by Attila - truly fascinating. One could go on for hours watching a particular period of time, and contemplating what the map tells us.

Saw this before, Ottomans had the largest population for around 200 years, at the exact years which iy was most powerful, while dropping lower after 1800 when it got weaker, and how Russia population skyrocketed when it was more powerful in 1800s, so you can make a correlation in those times population=power, but though not 100% accurate as the UK didn't have the highest population when it was most powerful but that was mitigated obviously with its colonies.

Population= Taxes,military manpower and land revenue in old days.
Until 18- 19th century when industrial revolution and global trade on a mass scale changes the equation.

Obviously tactics, geography are big factors too.
