''The leader of Syria's main Kurdish political body, the Democratic Union Party (PYD), has reportedly met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Cairo in a move to bolster his party's international standing.

PYD leader Saleh Muslim met with Abbas, who was there to attend a ceremony unveiling a major extension to the Suez Canal on Thursday. The meeting took place one day before the inauguration ceremony.''
