SLAMABAD: Lashing out at Pakistani Taliban for slaughtering 23 paramilitary personnel, Information Minister Pervez Rashid on Wednesday questioned whether the militants’ action was in accordance with the Islamic Sharia.
Speaking to media representatives, he criticized the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) leadership for the inhuman killing of the captive Frontier Cops (FC) soldiers.

“People favouring enforcement of Sharia should tell what treatment captives deserve according to the Sharia …… and the treatment those (FC men) received was in accordance with the Islamic laws or not,” he questioned.

The minister said that TTP’s central spokesman Shahidullah Shahid should have conveyed their reservations to the negotiating team they formed. “But, they didn’t do it and firstly attacked policemen in Karachi and then killed FC personnel,” he added.

Taking a strong stand against the home grown militants, he said the government also has reservations which the Taliban must address first.

Referring to the 1971’s war against India, Rashid said, “Even our rival country treated our 90,000 war captives in accordance with the Geneva Convention.” “Did they (Indians) behead even a single Pakistani soldier,” he questioned.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader clarified that no one should doubt capabilities of Pakistan’s defence institutions in dealing with the Taliban.

“They (defence institutions) have always achieved best possible results when it comes to defending our territorial boundaries or natural calamities and international community endorses it…… Pakistan’s armed forces are ranked very high in United Nations defence forces.”

Replying to a question regarding the likely military offensive against the extremists, Rashid ruled out such an action in the near future, saying there were two negotiating committees to deal with the situation.

“We are waiting for Taliban’s response to be conveyed to us by our negotiators….. a decision in this regard would only be made after that,” said the information minister.

Putting forth their conditions for ceasefire earlier today, Pakistani Taliban spokesman Shahidullah said that killing and dumping bodies of TTP members should immediately be stopped.

“The government has killed more than 60 Taliban since the start of the peace talks, in Karachi and the rest of Pakistan, under a secret operation codenamed Operation Root Out,” he claimed.

Peace talks between the two sides to end years of violence by the militant group reached a deadlock earlier this week after the killing of the 23 soldiers.

The FC soldiers had been kidnapped from Shongari checkpost in Mohmand tribal region in 2010 and were killed in captivity to avenge what Taliban called the custodial killing of their ‘fighters’ in various parts of Pakistan.

It seems the government is intentionally trying to make a mockery of itself.....

people should not expect terrorist to follow human right laws

i am starting to like India more now ........... maybe we should remove our soldiers from Indo Pak border and see what India does, if the dont bother, we will shift the army off to the Pak Afghan border
I am Positive India will not attack Pak if Pak moves its forces to Afghan border...If it does anything other than maintain status Quo....I will stop supporting India and start supporting Pakistan..that is for sure.

Does he really believe that terrorists would follow Geneva convention when they are killing innocents and blowing up bombs everywhere.

Contrary to popular belief war is the last thing on our mind. we want our economy to grow , war is a sure fire way to ensure it doesn't.

I don't think Pervez Rashid expects them to follow the Geneva convention. What he's trying to say is that they should have voiced their problems to their negotiating team.
At least, he's taking a stand.

Good lord, bomb these savages already!

As for the Geneva convention on human rights, India is a sovereign nation, member of the UN and abides by the rules. The TTP are rebel, terrorist outfight, which kills with impunity. Hence no rules should apply to them.

Kill them and make their bodies into mince meat to feed to our local boar/wild pig population.

Oh no.. this will come as a bolt out of the blue to those promoting India as a greater threat to Pakistan than anyone else. People like Zaid Hamid & his ilk will be jobless, should this is what ordinary Pakistanis start believing.

Uhh Mr. Minister, Pakistani prisoners ARE killed in Indian jails. Last known case was Sami ul Haq (if I'm not mistaken with the name) who got attacked and killed in Indian jail in response to Surbjeet getting killed in Pakistani jail. You can see where I'm going with that

I would never support the savage talibs. But just wanna let you guys Know that India knows tit for tat just as much as the next guy. Doesn't matter how many innocent are killed just as long as there score is settled with Pakistan with just a little more of tilt on India's side.

What's the context of this? Did the Taliban behead prisoners?

No where did Pervez Rashid asked the taliban to follow the geneva convention. He simply mocked taliban who claim to be perfect muslims and than he gave an example of Pakistanis tradition enemy India that even the non muslims (indians) have treated pakistani POWs with respect and dignity while you (talibanibitches) slaughtered the POWs with utter inhumanity
