Freedom of expression is the catch phrase here. The west holds this freedom in very high regard. Even a doh taka raddhi newspaper with a single staff cannot be forced to close down by bringing in pressure.

news of the world with over 130 year history owned by Rupert Murdoch a Multi Billionaire was forced to shut down due to a string of controversies in UK.

people holding public positions are forced to resign and their organisations fined for abuse of power, running smear campaigns, hacking and what not.

a doh taka raddhi newspaper has much more credibility than a big corporation that runs news media with the same business mentality as other sectors that have news about exploitation unfair competitions etc

If they are soo concerned they can let GEO broadcast for each and every EU nation! That way we will know each news with mirch masalah and within no time GEO "freedom of speech" such as that in Italy where the channels are owned by the biggest corrupt would be on GEO news!

Damn, never let us have our say by imposing stupid things against "our rights to object a bitchy channel" and then they say we are oppressing ourselves when they oppress us on the world stage!

Complete freedom of expression is a myth! Heck there are laws in the very EU where you cant speak against the holocaust...where does freedom of expression go then?

News of the World was not closed down because of any controversial views it might have printed. It was found guilty of illegal cellphone hacking, in a court of law following due process. Nothing of the sort has been proven against Geo.

So lets say if majority of the country dont want geo what then? What happens when you hear everyday rallies being taken out against a specific channel?

So now we have to ask every country in the world permission for doing anything? If PEMRA receives petitions and complaints against a channel then it has every right to investigate the matter and shut it down. After all thats what its there for. Who is EU to say that the people of pakistan can have this and cant have that.
