EU humiliated by India again, forgets about the Italian marines.

Not so. Indian supreme court does not handle contempt lightly. The last time, the Italians feared that their ambassador might end up in jail. In any case, the gentleman will have stay in India till the case gets decided, there is no way he will be allowed to leave.

Then Indian Supreme Court need to learn when something is beyond its jurisdiction and authority. If India put Italian embassador in jail, India will be regarded as a Pariah state by the west. And you don't want that, do you?

Maybe you should read up on the matter before you discuss it. The Italian ambassador had given an undertaking to the Indian supreme court which the Italian government then reneged on. The Indian supreme Court barred the Italian ambassador from leaving the country & warned that he faced contempt proceedings if the marines didn't return. Caused a U-turn from the Italian government who sent the marines to India just before the ending of the deadline.

It's criminal offense to put an ambassador in prison. If it's the US ambassador, India would never dare to ake such threats. But it's Italian so have fun.

Not so clear in contempt cases. Most other western missions were wondering about the undertaking given by the Italian ambassador. The logic being that if you submit to the authority of the supreme court by giving an undertaking, then you must stand ready to face consequences - i.e. you may have waived off immunity voluntarily by that act. There would be no case against the ambassador if he had not signed & submitted that declaration.

Well you pretend to be for the US, so let your ambassador do something similar to what the Italian did and we'll see where things stand.

The matter is simple as to whether the diplomatic immunity extends to such undertakings, as per legal consensus it does not.

The US arrested and tried Khobragade because she ostensibly broke US law, fine. If an ambassador does so in India and it s not covered by immunity, they'd be arrested and tried too. Of course, in India it would not happen in the offensive manner it happened with Khobragade.
