EU Escalates China Tensions With Probe to Ward Off Cheap EVs

One is 15% and another 25% and we are not allowed to even build cars in USA.

LOL! That's simply not true. That's Chinese Eastern media selling you lies.

BYD already builds EV buses. Why would cars be any different?

Since opening the plant in 2014, BYD has become the largest battery electric bus manufacturer in North America, with nearly 1,000 employees. In all, BYD has invested more than $250 million in North America, and now has more than 50 municipal transit agency, university, airport, federal and other commercial and private-sector bus customers.

The new battery plant we were building with Ford is gonna get torpedoed. So much for free trade eh?
It hasn't been torpedoed yet

You can't even legally sell Huawei phones In US.

Again more Chinese Eastern media lies.

You can't bundle it with the telcos which is how most Americans change phones.
Telecoms aren't bundling most brands...that isn't a good excuse to say they are just excluding Huawei

Let's look for Sony or Nokia...

hmm...nope

Verizon

Ok, Nokia is in this list

Sprint/T-Mobile

nope!

But somehow you think Huawei is the special case??? Why?

ZTE used to be bundled with telcos until US ban and Huawei overtook Apple to be the largest cellphone supplier in 2019 right before the sanctions. They were about to expand in US when Trump did that.

Just google, Congress will introduce a bill to limit Chinese investment. The BYD bus factory cannot bid for new projects because it Is Chinese. You can easily google it.

Telcos can't buy any telecom equipment including cellphones. How the heck can they even bundle with a plan?

Yup keep being a cheerleader. Lolol. Pretty obvious US can't compete and ia afraid of us.

It may have overtaken Apple but Samsung was still #1 (as usual).

ok, but what does that have to do with the state of Huawei or EV's right now?
Bills mean nothing...laws mean everything.

You mean they can't bid on federally funded transit projects.
Since when has any foreign company been allowed to bid on any of China's central government transit projects in the last 10 years? Yeah right!

Even if they did win somehow China would force then to create a joint venture with TOT.

Well even the EU folks are even saying this won't be easy.

EV Dumping.png

This is an easy issue to resolve actually for China - an "investigation" on dumping and subsidies by European governments for their auto industry and Airbus is enough.
Even the proof was provided by UK during Brexit debate.

[page 21]
In 2017, Germany’s Handelsblatt reported – on the basis of German Government data – that German carmakers had received more than €115 billion of public
money in the preceding decade. Handelsblatt. Germany’s pampered car industry. May 2017.

And Airbus subsidies are well know, even US won a case against Airbus :cheesy:

Chinese cars are also selling in India, what's your point?
The point is pretty simple if you employ a little common sense. If EU restricts Chinese cars, the status quo remains and, at most, a potential is lost. But if China restricts EU cars, EU manufacturers suffer tremendous losses from existing sales. Like the article says, "33% of BMW AG profits come from China alone"; cut that out and you'll have more unemployment in your already tanking economy. China, on the other hand, can use its domestic companies to fill the gap left by EU, just as it is doing right now with semiconductors. Then that market will be lost indefinitely.

a question who want a Nokia these days ?

a question who want a Nokia these days ?

It's Taiwanese now. Owned basically by Foxconn. So the same question is...who would want Huawei?

HMD Global (Home of mobile devices) or Nokia Mobile with branded as Nokia, is a Finnish mobile phone manufacturer owned by Terry Gou.

Terry Gou (Chinese: 郭台銘; pinyin: Guō Táimíng; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Koeh Tâi-bêng; born 18 October 1950) is a Taiwanese billionaire businessman and politician. Gou is the founder and former chairman and chief executive officer of Foxconn,

They do have motor, but biggest issue is battery.
Unlike engines, which can go one decade modern batteries cant do that. The charging cycle is limited.
And i meant in general sense
A battery is easier and cheaper to build and replace than an engine, and the long-term operational cost (electricity) is a lot cheaper than an engine (petrol/gas).

I m not saying EVs dont offer any advantage but we gotta look at both sides.
Batteries are easier and cheaper to build yes, if you are doing these as DIY projects but if you go with official company ones these will cost you between 5 to 10000 $ for each car in10 to 15 years
Biggest issue is our current battery tech itself these are extremely toxic , recycling is issue we are jumping from one harmful item to another.
As both side it has its good and bads. Let's see what we get in 30 years.

I just watched Chinese car review by German reviewers.

I think EU worry is no kidding.

Chinese car really can take over the entire EU.
