India will not break the ties with Iran for sure, may be some momentary decision but i m sure backdoor diplomacy will continue to get exemption... lets hope Iran and Trump get back to negotiation....there is lot to worry for developing and oil dependent countries like India if this tussels lead to price hike..

Why doesn't India just say no, like Turkey and the EU did.

US cant sanction China effectively because doing so would kill a big source of income for US. You are living in year 2000. For all practical intents and purposes, as things are today, China can render any US sanction it wants ineffective. thats facts. only issue is China doesnt act rash towards US because they're national success and trade is very dependent on each other.

India has no choice but to comply with US in this regard because Delhi hasn't been made a NATO type ally and being signed with LEMOA etc agreements. Since a while, India has been establishing much more stronger ties with Gulf countries for many reasons including Oil Import on top. Not to mention when Modi met Saudi Prince MBS in Argentina during a summit lastly. India was informed already hence, diverted its attention so it shouldn't be of any surprise for anyone though, Iran may found it unexpected.

What no power in the world can undo is the geography!!! Iran has got long land borders with both Turkey and Pak....

not A really big surprise on Indian U turn on Iran. They did in the past on voting sanctioning Iran on nukes. Americans gave Indian enough leash to wriggle now it’s being pulled back. India will obey!
