Ethiopian army official: Country will defend itself over dam

Egyptian military capabilities are way exaggerated in your post, numbers mean nothing in modern battlefield.
The simplest exsample is the fact that most professional armies a shrinking in size since years while the capabilities keep growing.

I agree Egyptian military is way exaggerated but a country like Ethiopia and all their little friends will be decimated by Egyptian military and their firepower.

.
Not their people but their rulers and their trained stooges. I never hold people of peninsula responsible for What happening to Yemen. I heard Egyptian pilots refuted flying Egyptian bomber s over Yemen saying we are trained to fight against Israel not the people of Yemen. Most of pilots flying Saudi jets bombing Yemen are of Foreign origins. Therefor id never ever Ask for bombing civilians of Arabia. Thats a Simple Logic and i hope Turks change their mind. These attitudes are harmful.

However you guys are to blame for Syria. No blank card for Iran either.

I agree Egyptian military is way exaggerated but a country like Ethiopia and all their little friends will be decimated by Egyptian military and their firepower.

Unfortunately Egyptian military is being misused against the Egyptian people's interests.

No shock here as Sisi himself came from the US, he was picked to rule Egypt.

.
That is pretty well some paranoia.. since Egypt did not threaten a strike on the Ethiopian Dam.. not even once..and that weapon thing is not true..and depicts more paranoia still..

And then he comes back with: “the way forward should be cooperation in a fair manner.”..
Which is what Egypt has been asking for since the beginning..

I agree Egyptian military is way exaggerated but a country like Ethiopia and all their little friends will be decimated by Egyptian military and their firepower.
What do you mean by exaggerated?

Joke of the century: A country that bought the best weapons from France, Italy, Germany and Russia, with more than 40 billion dollars in 7 years, will surrender to its fate and die of thirst for the lack of tanker planes that do not exceed the price of $300 million..

Buddy..your posts contradict each other all the time.. why don't you refrain from posting on matters you know little or nothing about..
Nonsense. Your conjecture is based on what exactly? Egypt and Israel are allies actually.

The Egyptians should overthrow the Sisi regime. It is not in Egypt's interests to be led by this dictator.
And you know better than Egyptian people!?

What’s the issue with the Dam? Is there any kind of treaty or argeement between Egypt & Ethiopia that prevents construction of dams and/or defines the minimum amount of water that needs to flow to Egypt?
Yes there are treaties on the last narrative which overruns the first..

I don’t think Egypt have a choice because they have no allies in Africa who would open bases for them except erm Haftar from 3 countries away...and not to mention Sinai and the internal problems...

They’re about to have an anti-Egypt government next door (Libya) who will probably flood in thouands of Turkish-Qatari financed Muslim Brotherhood sleeper cells in Egypt out of revenge when this happens and Sissi will open how many fronts? 5 simultaneously while the Saudis-UAE keep bankrolling him to keep him in power.

Sudan has been a neutral country historically and neither sides with Egypt or Ethiopia so they won’t open a base for them. No one in East Africa will host bases for Egypt because they all have strong ties with Ethiopia.

Also, look at the international support Ethiopian govt have because they’re the servant of US that does the job for them by acting the police in the Horns and does their work in Somalia so in other word, US won’t let Egypt attack them.

Lastly, look at the countries involved in the dam project (Israel and Europe). It’s been almost 10 years so it’s too late anyway.
This means you are totally ignorant of the facts in Africa..

Egypt presides over African Union in 2019: Presidency Spokesperson

https://egyptindependent.com/egypt-presides-african-union-2019-presidency-spokesperson/

Too much BS in one post..
It is not your opinion that counts..it is the facts on the ground..

Desalination has its issues..

Desalination: An Ocean of Problemsfinds that desalination–the process of removing salt from seawater to make it drinkable, carries a high price tag, releases unregulated chemicals into drinking water supplies, uses large amounts of energy, pollutes waterways, and threatens fisheries and marine environments, among other drawbacks.

https://www.foodandwaterwatch.org/news/ocean-desalination-no-solution-water-shortages#:~:text=Desalination: An Ocean of Problemsfinds, and marine environments, among other
Not with the new technologies anymore.. you should look into that for your own knowledge furthering..

Just to see how crazy these Ethiopians are..they say that since Arabs have Oil as natural resource and sell it..so should Ethiopia sell its water..!?

BTW..the US is with Egypt on this water matter as well as the UN and the international law governing waters..

Too bad to see so many ignorants trying to vent their ignorance on Sissi who is doing great work for his people and country..
I guess it is jealousy and envy driving these low lives' thoughts..

Ah iranian... iranian... We all know what your kind actually capable of... We saw it in syria. Carpet bombing schools, hospitals and all that. And now you want to play the moral high ground? Really? Your ideology is terrorism. And that's why you excluded by all world. The world of politics is about power, and frankly for the power you did so many disgusting things that we couldn't even imagine.
About egypt, Once Sisi removed, peace and property is waiting for them. All they need to do is reach out and grab it. If they need some encouragement so be it.
He is being more rational than you are..

Correct. Other than the emission and energy factor, the other impacts of desalination exist such as the mineral composition.
No more.. there is a thread about it here on PDF

This dam means the end of Egypt...

And, the Egyptian rulers are against the Turkish folks and kill their own Muslim leaders like El Banna, Syed Kutub, Morsi etc....

Any war against Ethiopia, and the West will put a sanction...
You know what means the end of Egypt.. It is a nuclear bomb on your head.. even if it is a dirty bomb..:frown::lol::lol:

.
The Rafale range reaches 3700 km, and what is required to reach the dam from the nearest bases is a plane with a range of approximately 3000 km .... Rafale can reach it and the F-16 Block 52 can reach it too as well as the MiG-29 by air refueling from other fighters.. not even mentioning the SU-35..

So when will people understand the dam issue with a correct perspective ... They will know this is not a political dispute or a conflict of views between two countries or a struggle for influence or interests ... This is an existential threat to a population of 100 million people and therefore this is something that is never wavered or retracted..even if means Egyptians go in to Ethiopia on foot .... This is a more serious challenge than Israel's occupation of Sinai, and more dangerous than the French and English occupation attack, and more dangerous than the Tatar march on Egypt ..... This is an issue in which Egyptians live or die..

Before the October 1973 Ramadan war, the Soviet experts said that the Barlev line needed nuclear bombs, and the Israelis said that it was the strongest defense line in the world, and there were many other countries doubts about Egypt's ability to destroy the Barlev line, So in fact..everyone thinks as far as the limits of of his brain allow..

Evaluating the situation strategically from the point of view of Egypt was the result that it is better in the long run to let Ethiopia build the dam with Egyptian conditions and complete compatibility between the three countries to not raise problems in the future. This is why Egypt wanted Ethiopia to build the dam and benefit from electricity provided that its water security is not compromised ... Ethiopia stalled the negotiations and it violated the agreements that were signed between the three parties, which led to the position we are now dealing with..

Ethiopia would like to be hit by Egypt so it can take the latter position in the eyes of the UN security council..But Egypt in not playing that game.. It wants international law about waters to prevail..

And better for the haters to know:

The Nile is still running and and there is not even one drop missing out of it, and Lake Nasser alone is enough for 7 years and more..

China is by far Ethiopia's largest investor accounting for over 60% of the country's FDI and they are also by far their largest contractor. So this Dam will also be built with their help. China has very strong ties with Ethiopia. Will be interesting to see where they stand if Egypt and Ethiopia get into conflict. Ethiopia seems to have many powerful foreign backers and even locals one. Virtually all Ethiopia's neighbours are friendly to them(or at least not an enemy) except Eritrea. However, Eritrea and Ethiopia now have neutral relations since they signed a peace treaty after the new Ethiopian President took power(he's very diplomatic and has a very bold vision and ambitions for his country). So both sides will not do anything to harm the other at this point since this peace treaty was agreed after very long negotiations and compromises and both sides are wary and tired of fighting long endless war. So Egypt's options are very limited to be honest.

NB: Ethiopia is also holds the headquarters of the African union and holds alot of sway over the African Union. So go figure.
Researchers estimate that the need for food in the next hundred years will increase steadily (some studies estimate the required increase by 70% above current production! East Asia has the lion’s share of the expected increase with an increase in the standard of living in China in particular), the available geographical locations that can be used to meet demand Unfortunately, at an acceptable cost, including the Nile Basin, which possesses a tremendous untapped abundance but suffers from mismanagement from all countries of origin and basin without exception.

The facts that are present in front of us, are that China built 87 thousand dams in the past seventy years! And it includes dams on the headwaters in Tibet that affect India, Bangladesh, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam and even Pakistan.. without any understanding or agreement with the downstream countries, despite official opposition and international protest.

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AP) — Ethiopia’s deputy army chief on Friday said his country will strongly defend itself and will not negotiate its sovereignty over the disputed $4.6 billion Nile dam that has caused tensions with Egypt.

“Egyptians and the rest of the world know too well how we conduct war whenever it comes,” Gen. Birhanu Jula said in an interview with the state-owned Addis Zemen newspaper, adding that Egyptian leaders’ “distorted narrative” on Africa’s largest hydroelectric dam is attracting enemies.

He accused Egypt of using its weapons to “threaten and tell other countries not to touch the shared water” and said “the way forward should be cooperation in a fair manner.”

idont understand why we should involve to this? it is like Egypt support pkk-pky stituation for us..so i support Egypt in this matter..

This is a very serious and interesting development. We get constantly lost in the childish squabbles between India-Pakistan and India-China that we loose sight of major Geo-Political Tensions brewing throughout the World.

While Egypt certainly has a much superior military over Ethiopia on paper, it lacks the legs/logistics to effectively project power and knock the Dam out. Egypt would have to traverse through Sudan(Neutral Country) and maintain its supply line. It appears, the distance would be atleast 4000km(back and forth) making an aerial strike almost impossible for Egypt.

Egypt would have to knock out the dam before the reservoir is filled. Even a minor breach could cause an uncontrollable collapse which would send the entire reservoir down devastating Egypt. You don't mess with a full dam as the power of the reservoir water is immense. That means, Egypt has a very limited window to act.

Time to bring in the cavalry. Thoughts @Joe Shearer @PanzerKiel @Nilgiri @dbc @LeGenD @AgNoStiC MuSliM

What Missiles? The distance is 2000kms, the only missiles i see the Egyptians have are the Scuds.

Nothing further to add. This summary is good. I think Egypt best option is to negotiate/salvage a good/fair water treaty it can with Ethiopia. Ethiopia also is a "long term" country with good potential, its best not to create too much adversity now with them...but smoothen things out and set stage responsibly for a better relationship in future. World is too full of countries vice-locked in bitterness now (with complete different generations of people now) because of upstream irresponsible clumsy action.

On a complete unrelated note, I just this moment found a very likely underlying (RAM buffer, given I am randomly using an older comp tonite) reason to a vbulletin glitch here at PDF (where reply inserts into the quoted text instead of outside it, and I found this plaguing a few replies here and there over the years here) by hitting reply to your tag just now. Will chat in GHQ with webby about it later....I don't think its fixable though.

.
In Iran it costs you 10 bn Rial to build a missile like this, with 2500 KM Range.
4

Which is equal to almost 500k dollar. With 40 bn dollar that Egypt spent on acquiring Foreign fighter, Egypt could produce 80,000 units of this Solid fueled missile which catches 14 mach speed when its warhead reaches the target on the Ground. Iran rarely uses this specific missile due to its high price tag. Instead Iran bombed American bases in Iraq with a liquid fueled missile. Which costs 1/5th that of Solid fueled Sejjil2 missile. Which means Egypt could have 400,000 units of Qiam missile with a warhead weighing nearly 1 ton TNT which could easily defeat American air Defense systems.
5100613_651.jpg

No fighter jet in the World can offer such capability for an Army. Not to mention the cost of maintanance of these fighter could cripple Egyptian economy in the Long run.

Arabs mentality of acquiring shiny toys usually cracks me up @Amun. I hope you have figured out that how would you pay for Sukhoi-Rafale-Migs-Falcons maintanance attthe same time and their Flight costs. Not to mention the cost of every missile that are deployed on these various types of fighter jets. 4 companies means 4 separate problems. As an Iranian, i assure you our economy can not tolerate this amount of costs while having free oil and gas.

this thread s an example of how Turks behave .... supporting ISIS to do the work for them in Syria ..... then moved their baby Terrorists to Libya to do their dirty work ..... ( they cannot do any thing by themselves)

as I have always said ... Turks are young impulsive nation that feeling insecurity with an imperialist dictator leading them ...

As for Ethiopia , the dam is not a problem .... even Egypt helped many Nile basin countries to build dams ....
the last one in Tanzania...that worth about 4 B USD and being built by 2 Egyptian companies Elsewedy electric and Arab Contractors ...... so the dam it self is not the big issue .... it is about the Egyptian share not to be decreased .

What’s the issue with the Dam? Is there any kind of treaty or argeement between Egypt & Ethiopia that prevents construction of dams and/or defines the minimum amount of water that needs to flow to Egypt?

Yes , there are many treaties and agreements ..... and FYI rivers water treaties are considered as boarders treaties between countries .... any violation to it makes the country defend itself and it is not against international laws ..

Egypt is brought to its knees and pacified. It will not be a threat to Israel. The last major Arab army will vanish. For KSA and gang, no rival challenger among Arabs is left and further the only Sunni rival left is Turkey.

Hence why defeating Turkey in Libya is so important for them and why they even made peace with Assad in Syria.

Ethiopia has always been a Western hub. It was the last country to be dominates by Europeans. The Italians patronized it. Europeans largely left Ethiopia alone as it was the only Christian country in the region.

Israel also established relations with Ethiopia early on. They viewed each other as allies due to both being surrounded by Muslim countries.

Recently Ethiopia was used by Western nations to occupy and maintain the fragmentation of Somalia. Somalia by virtue of its geographic location could rival any state in the region if it unified its missing parts. Western reign of terror of drone attacks and repeated imposed Civil War has been meant to keep Somalia backwards. Further it has become the dumping ground of waste and illegal fishing by many powers such as India, China, etc. due to its weak state. That is what led to the rise of Somali pirates.

Sudan is no longer a neutral country due to Sisi amplifying the border dispute between them. Sudan was also friendly to Morsi government, that's the reason. In revenge Sudan decided to support Ethiopia and now Egypt can't do anything.

Egypt is the only Islamic country that fought and defeated Israel ... so stop talking about Israel ... we can handle it over and over again if it attacked us .

Your hate to Sisi ... will not make him step down as Egyptian president .... it is only related to us Egyptians .....
Your support to Turks .... makes you lost your logic AGAIN .

Regarding Sudan , I know you are feeling sorry because your role model Turks have lost their .... that puppet Elbashir ... who promised them of a military base .... then things changed in Sudan and he is in prison now .... and Sudan is fully with Egypt now ..... because of 2 things :
- now they are a free country that is not affected by the Turkish invaders and the dam is harmful to Sudan .

- Ethiopian attacks on Sudani land and killing of Sudanes soldiers...just a few days ago ..

it seems like you are not updated ...!

Turks hate Egyptians to death ... this is not something new ...

They believe egypt has occupied their ottoman empire.

they hate Egypt as they know ... it is the only country in the region that can confront them and stop their imperialistic dreams .

Egypt needs Long range ballistic missiles and Long range cruise ones. Wastiing billions on Rafale, Migs, Falcons etc is a grave mistake. I couldnt care less about who rules Egypt. Its still important that Egypt is facing an existential threat. You test missiles and project your Power throughout African continent then Israel and other cancers will fail to bring Egypt on its knees.
Egypt with 100 million population is worse than thousands of nuclear waeheads for Israel. The major Plan here is to reduce Egyptian population and displace the inhabitants around Nile River who are alive thanks to Nile's water.
After that Egypt projects its Power, negotiations with Ethiopia will result in absolute success for Egypt. However Even without Long range missiles Ethiopia can not do much against Egyptian Army.
Unfortunately International laws Allow Ethiopia to build a dam on Nile. Army and politicians can defy this serious threat together.

Egypt has 800 and 1200 KMs Missiles ( Vector and Condor II)

but , man , you cannot target a dam with Ballistic Missiles ..... you only can target it with penetrating bombs .... that can make cracks in it’s body .... and let the water do the rest .

Sisi won't attack the dam because the situation in Egypt is relatively stable, and he is in total control.
but if Egyptians decide to grow some balls and overthrow the dictator, then he might think of attacking the dam as a distraction

first of all just grow some balls and stop kissing the hands of that young boy that you call a prince and be REAL MEN ..... just pathetic...o_O

some people has inferiority complex .... :disagree:

Nice, didnt know that. Start cpying them and make them MArv capable.

I thought Condor was Argentian missile. Btw, Sejjil2 warhead can penetrate 10 meters beneath the earth crust and cause 30 meters radius of destruction around the landing point. Air dropped missile can not reach speed of 14 mach also the Impact of such speed on the target would be devastating. Khorramshahr missile can carry 3 700kg warheads at same time. Which can cause serious damage to a dam. An other problem with fighter jets despite their air2air capability, they can be easily tracked and taken out by Ground radars and air Defense systems rezpectively. You might lose both your pilot and fighter jet over the enemy airspace. Too costly and disappointing to lose your pilot whose value is much More than his fighter jet. Fighter jets are good if they Fill the gaps of airdefense systems, American crippled Iraq of Saddam using Long rNge cruise missiles that was why their casualties was next to Zero.

Condor II ... is a joint Egyptian-Argentinian project ..... but as you know .. ballistic missiles are not accurate.

Comon bro. Here, Iranian attack on American base
800px-Ain_al-Assad_air_base%2C_8_jan_2020.png

There are plenty ways for increasing their accuracy. LPS for positioning systems and drones to give you accurate coordimation. Irans Recently launched military Satellite called Noor will provide accurate coordination beside high Resolution images. So we are ready to target hostile enemies thousands of kilometers away.

After being spanked by Hezbollah, you still dare to say such things with that straight face?
If brotherhood extremists didnt stab Arabs in the back, nowadays you had to search for Israel in dustbin of history.

The pages in this section are fulled with his empty threatens and big mouth that is telling How they will destroy Turkey. This guy is just a hot headed balloon who is struggling to defend a coup plotter low level puppet called Sisi who has a similar character with him. IsIs kick them in sinai and this guy came here to accuse Turkey. Ethopia construct a dam in Nile basin and he is openning his mouth for Turkiye. They support a gang coup plotter gang in Libya. When they were defeated against Turkish backed UN recognized government, He cry against Turkiye again. No matter what will happen in future. He will accuse us while he is telling his dreams about How strong and capable force they have. I just prefer to laugh this coup lover fanboy when I saw his next threatens.
