For example, in 2011 there was a protest march by the Turkish Progressive Lawyers Association who were protesting the decision of Erdogan to join the rest of NATO plus GCC plus Al Qaeda in initiating political sabotage and military invasion of Syria.

I don't know what is the percentage of Turks who voted for Erdogan's party but the Western style of four-yearly elections and the winner decided on majoritarian vote is not really democratic. The majority can be wrong. Take my own country for instance.
