Erdoan: Turkey considers Shanghai organization an alternative to EU

Secondly, you say we shouldn't join SCO because of China. Why not? China is not the only country in the organization, besides that we can kick out China and step out the organization any time we want. I'm not interested in cooperation with China any way. It is much more interesting to cooperate with Russia, Turkic states and other Asian countries who are in the organization.

Kick China out of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization?

Good luck, since there is no chance of you joining the EU, this is your way forward. Join the SCO and kick China out.

.
About time the countries of Asia begin to work together. But as Samuel P Huntington notes Asia has always been unstable and the various nations at each others necks. This has hampered i believe, a coalition between the countries of Asia. Each nation basically has its territorial disputes so this hampers even any progress by SAFTA and SAARC as well in South Asia. It might be the same for trade agreements concerning China and other nations.

So what we can change the name.

For the record, I don't want China out, I'm just more interested in other partners in the organization.

SCO and NATO aren't exactly friends anyway, so I doubt it will happen.

Erdogan is only saying this to try to pressure the EU into accepting Turkey, which seems unlikely at this point.

So what we can change the name.

As the co-founder of the SCO we have veto power, just like we do in the UN Security Council. You can still try though, and good luck with that. :disagree:

The world of alliances is an intricate one indeed, is it not. Chinese dragon, @atatwolf what is the background of this dispute between China and Turkey? Both are seen as allies to Pakistan but could it be they are not friends to each other. :)

So, what if you have veto power? We were talking about a situation where China disintegrates, do you think SCO won't exist after that? They will just change the name. Problem solved.

I don't have anything against China. Chinese are negative about Turks getting influence in Turkic states. I don't know what their train of thought is and what their motivation is.

Interestingly, America tried to join the SCO in 2006 as an observer, and they were rejected.

Shanghai Cooperation Organisation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is not a bastion of American or Western influence. This is an Asian organization.

This can be very useful. Nations are not eager to jump on the Chinese bandwagon or cooperate extensively on account of fear of losing ties with the wst... I find it unfortunate as even this is the case for Pakistan which has massive deals and cooperation but does not wish to fully abandon US and depend on China. There is a perception of having been mistreated for our efforts and as cold war allies. There is an interesting thread on it here.
@atatwolf Personally I believe Asian states should do everything to forge links between each other as it is to our benefit. Turkey should recognize its place as an Asian power not a European one. Secularism was never a concept of the west anyway nor is it limited to any geographic boundary. Asia can use it as well and many such nations have already. Turkish secularism deeply inspires liberals in Pakistan. My point is Turkey has more similarities with Asia. It is just co-incidental that the west practices secularism and escaped the shackles of the mullah but that does not mean there is no such sentiment in Asia. Also do note that the father of modern secularism was Ibn Rushd-an Islamic philosopher while Mu'tazili school of thought openly advocates this. It includes Mutazil.

China replacing the US as superpower is in no one's but our interests. It is a shift of power from America to Asia. I believe Asians will benefit but we do not realize this yet or are wary of the rise-fearing it is temporary.

Havisultan I agreed with everything besides your last paragraph. China will never be a superpower. It simple can't because of demographics, economics and geopolitics. I also don't agree China being a superpower is a good thing for Muslims and other non-Muslims in the area. I don't want to go in particulars but we won't see China as a superpower any way. I rather see a Turkic Japanese Russian middle-eastern Alliance.

It is understandable, since America is the sole superpower, that many countries don't want to anger them.

There is no need to choose one or the other though.

Cooperate with America and China at the same time, in fact America+China together have the largest bilateral economic relationship in the world. There is no need to give your security interests in favour of either one.

If China has good tolerants Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and Muslims, Turkey and China will be friend.

Buddhists atacks Rohingya Muslims. Some Chiness people support them. :(
Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, they have same reason. :(

I dont hate Chiness people. But we see Muslims and Uyghur Turks are same(etnic or lineage) us. So they are bro of us. If China has good tolerant this people, I hope Turkey and China will be friend.

For a Turk you think very highly of your country when it's not even a member of SCO but you would like to join in plus you rather see Japan in the alliance and China out of it. What a joke man

Cooperation is important. For us it is not about RELIGION but the fact that cooperation helps both sides.

So we'll continue to cooperate with Turkey as long as they cooperate with us, no problems there.
