No way pilots would be carrying them when going on real world missions.On the other hand, it would make it easy for enemy search parties to locate him, if he lands in hostile territory.
And communication through cell phones is not encrypted.
Anyway there do need to be lessons learnt from this- along with the SERE training given to IAF airmen they need to be taught how to land when ejecting (clearly lacking) and I've heard about survival kits being attached to some IAF a/c but it needs to be mandatory for ALL fighters. These kits eject with the pilot and contain basic rations, supplies and equipment to help them survive and get rescued (although we can't know if such a kit was present here or not). Additionally whatever caused the munitions to explode whilst still attached to the a/c needs to be understood and if measures can be taken to negate this risk in the future.
Very pleasing that both pilots walked away (relatively) unscathed from this.
