Anti-aircraft missiles can only be intended for Israel's jets, because Sinai terrorists don't have aircraft.

According to a report on Voice of Israel government-sponsored radio, Egypt has moved anti-aircraft missiles into the Sinai Peninsula.

The radio station's Arab affairs analyst, Eran Zinger, reported Saturday that Egypt has deployed both anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles near Israel’s border in the Egyptian Sinai, without Israel’s permission.

Such equipment is prohibited in Sinai by the Egypt-Israel peace treaty. “Egypt is trying to change the situation in Sinai,” Zinger said.

If the report is true, the move is an overtly hostile one toward Israel and can only mean that Egypt is preparing for hostilities with the Jewish state. Ostensibly, Egyptian forces moved into Sinai only in order to crush terrorist activity there. However, the terrorists possess no aircraft. Therefore anti-aircraft missiles can only be intended against Israel's air force.

In the prelude to the Yom Kippur War of 1973, Egypt moved anti-aircraft missiles close to the Suez Canal, despite a commitment not to do so. Israel chose to ignore the move, and the result was catastrophic, when the missiles shot down numerous IAF jets after war broke out.

The Israeli government has asked Egypt to withdraw the armored vehicles it deployed in Sinai 11 days ago, in contravention of the peace treaty between the two nations, according to Al-Quds Al-Arabi, which quotes Israeli sources.

Israel said that the deployment of armored forces in the El Arish area was only reported to it retroactively by Egypt, after the forces had already been deployed. Once Egypt supplied Israel with the full details about the extent of the deployment, the Jewish state asked Egypt to withdraw its armor from northern Sinai.

nice decision......this is the will of the egyptian people since mursi is an elected head of govt.....plus this is what you do when u have people standing behind you and supporting you.

@ agenty17 : Mate, how is the 'peace treaty' after the '73 War viewed in Egypt ? A triumph, a little like the Treaty of Versailles for the Germans or something in between ?

Let me plz answer this question, it's seen as a decisive victory by Egyptians and they proudly celebrate it every year. Since wars are measured by their results, it can be said it was a victory since Egypt got back all their lands.

Be careful mate before the Zionists read this comment and start crying.

Egypt is not ready for a war, not yet. They should refrain from provocations.

People are mixed about the treaty. People are not happy with the "limited" forces and arms that is allowed in Sinai, but at the same time Egypt got all its land back which is a win. I think the peace treaty benefited both countries, but it benefited Israel more. The peace treaty could have benefited Egypt way more, if Egypt was to normalize relations with Israel which is hard when Palestinians are suffering!

Egypt is not ready for war and doesn't want to fight with anybody unless it is a defensive war! We signed a treaty, we should respect it. That is the right thing to do, and that is what our religion tells us to do!

I know but moving anti-tank and anti-aircraft equipment into the Sinai is a provocation breaching the treaty. :coffee:

Well, we are fighting terrorists, we need to move as much weapons and forces as we can. Also, Anti-aircraft missiles are defensive missiles and Egypt should be able to defend itself from anybody.

They told Isreal they were moving in troops, as per treaty, to control an obvious militant problem. Not sure about Egyptian organization...but an American division will have organic ADA, and you don't leave it behind...that would be foolish (you never know what is gonna happen...have ALL your assets)

Treaty, what treaty, this is the fairness of the treaty, Israel with 6 million inhabitants gets (overtly) $3 billion in "AID", while Egypt with more than 80 million population gets $1.5 Billion.
Egypt can raise triple this amount within its borders just by peoples charity if it needs or wants to.
Other facts comprise the technological limit the US imposes on Egypt while Israel was allowed to get what it wants in parity with the US itself and with most European countries like Germany with its Dolphin submarines.
One example is that Egypt couldn't get the Dutch submarines it wanted, because USrael did everything to scrap the deal.
