CAIRO: Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down on Friday and handed power to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, Vice President Omar Suleiman said in a brief televised statement.
 
Mubarak has quit, and flown to Sharm-el-Sheik. Today is Liberation Day for the Egyptian people. They are free at last!!!!!!

i am watching it live on bbc24, the crowd is so huge, people are happy. they are speaking to the protestors on the phone, it is hard for them to hide their joy, you can see it from their voices.
 
People in TAHRIR SQUARE are singing the National Anthem. There is only jubilation in the air.
