Egypt is getting South korean Frigates

There are no Oberon class in Egypt as far as I know but 1 0r 2 Sava class.... every military announcement in Egypt comes suddenly , like the SK frigate now.. it is always when a done deal is reach and training on the systems is at its end.. I am not saying that the Kilo class are imminent, i just pointed out that there were serious talks concerning them.. but the choice is apparently wider..
"In 1989 Egypt purchased two Oberon-class submarines from Britain. These submarines would require refitting and modernization before entering Egyptian service."
https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/egypt/navy.htm
"HMS Oberon was paid off in 1986. She was sold in 1987 to the Seaforth Group to be refitted for resale to Egypt, but was broken up at Grimsby in 1991."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Oberon_(S09)
OBERON (S 09), completed: 1961, fate: Sold to Egypt.

On 8 May, 1989, Jane's Defence Weekly apparently carried an article "Egypt set to buy Walrus, Oberon" (p. 801). This is stated in the 1992 Sipri report Europe and Naval Arms Control in the Gorbachev Era , editted by Andreas Fürst,Volker Heise, Steven E. Miller. (Oxford University Press, ISBN 0-19-829152-3)

Probably a deal that didn't go through (completely) as planned.

lol. If I understand the Dutch flavor in that saying, it's the same as "thumbing your nose at..."? :-)
"to pull up your nose for" = to stick your nose up in the air and, possibly, look away= considering oneself too good for something, something is beneath you.

Unlikely Egypt ever had any Sava class sub (of Yugoslav origin):

Built: 1975–1981
In commission: 1978–2002
Completed: 2
Retired: 2

Both Sava and Drava were part of the 88th Submarine Flotilla of the Yugoslav Navy, with the Lora Naval Base in Split being their homeport. In October 1983 while underwater Drava suffered a hull breach which almost resulted in the submarine and its entire crew being lost. It was revealed that the cause of the breach was a design flaw in the submarine itself. With the start of the Croatian War of Independence both submarines were relocated to Montenegro where they were eventually commissioned with the FR Yugoslav Navy.
The major overhaul of Drava was stopped in 1996 and the boat was decommissioned sometime around 1999. Sava was decommissioned in 2002 and was officially declared redundant in 2004, being not operational for some time by that point. The submarines were passed on to Montenegro after the country declared independence in 2005, and after unsuccessful attempts at selling the submarines as complete warships, in 2008 it was decided that they were to be sold for scrap or as museum exhibits.
Drava was sold and scrapped in June 2008 in Tivat. On 8 May 2008 Sava was sold as scrap for 174,500 Euros to the Podgorica firm "Mont Metal" and was towed to Turkey for scrapping. An article published in 2010 suggested that the submarine was sold along with the "Orca-2000" system still on board, although it was supposed to be removed along with the other sensitive combat equipment. "Orca-2000" was a torpedo fire control system that could also be used for navigation and was developed in Serbia and Montenegro . A few days later Rajko Bulatović, commander of the Montenegrin Navy at the time, made a statement explaining the "Orca-2000" system was never installed on Sava, and was in fact, developed for a foreign customer.

Yeah I understood the Dutch flavor in that wording. But nobody is doing that, least of all me. Despite wanting so bad to be noticed, I think it's pretty clear that the Algerian navy is of absolute insignificant concern to the big parties in the Easter Mediterranean region. :-)

.
True. Depends on who was their adversary though. The results would still have been the same if they were fighting a superior military.

Its better to loose after a fight, rather than your opponent having a walk over.
Egyptians are a patriotic nation and they would fight the invaders till last breath.

A very good choice by Egyptian navy.

Don't me laugh! Comparing to whom? Egypt Navy is emasculated et everything in her arsenal is a thing of the past..To this day she hasn't received anything that will be considered as a threat to any country that has real navies..So far your matron hasn't cry wolf yet..translation Egypt , the lethality of your navy of today and that off the 60's are about the same...Israel has 100 kms of shore, has over over 70 crafts and a potent submarine force to go with it...Algeria's navy is technically, superior to the Egyptian's and is staffed with capable well trained crew..
In 2000 they was the first navy game between the US navy and her Algerian counterpart...Well guess what, the US navy with their age is, with their Orion, with their patroller couldn't finding the Algerian Kilo ( before being upgrade) that successfully manouvered behind their PA...US navy thought it will be an easy task and shuttled in journalist, expert to witness the onslaught of a Kilo...to their embarrassment...
Other events happened during the famous CM in Oumdourban, the shuttling of the 40,OOO + DZ fans was a military operation against the Moubarak plan to send his SF in civilian clad to attack the dz fans...The're was a squadron of SU30 MKA with its supports based in Sudan..
Israel noticed..You all didn't ....
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE MUSTACHOES AND THEIR CAPABILITIES..

Algeria's army is preparing to counter Egypt and the Sunni NATO in Lybia .The war game Majd 2017 was to put the Arabs, and Morocco on notice...
TurKey and Qatar have already a lot of ISIS element to Lybia from the Syria and Iraq...

The English version would be more usefull...

Only 2 Sava class were ever built. With the start of the Croatian War of Independence, both submarines were relocated to Boka Kotorska where they would be commissioned with the new FR Yugoslav Navy of, what would eventually become, Serbia and Montenegro. Both Sava and Drava were part of the 88th Submarine Flotilla of the Yugoslav. Both were decommissioned during the early 2000s. In 2008 it was decided that they were to be sold for scrap or as museum exhibits Navy. On 8 May 2008 Sava was sold as scrap for 174,500 Euros to the Podgorica firm "Mont Metal" and was towed to Turkey for scrapping. Drava was sold and scrapped in June 2008 in Tivat (Montenegro).

There are no follow-on classes to the Sava class boats.

Of the preceeding 3 boats Heroj class: no exports, 2 were scrapped (1997, 2007) while 1 is on display at the Porto Montenegro museum.

Of the preceeding 2 boat Sutjeska class: no exports, both were scrapped (1980s)

According to SIPRI, the ONLY arms deal between Yugoslavia and Egypt between 1950 and 2016 was:
R: Egypt 6 Higgins 78ft FAC (1955) 1956 6 Second-hand

There are conflicting reports, I have read the reports you are providing some time ago because I did search it.. but there are other reports saying that Egypt got one Sava Sub, even an Usraeli report in 2009 sail that Egypt procured a SAVA submarine.. So let's leave it at this, since there are no confirmations nor denials of it..
