Egypt: “if Ethiopia does not reach an agreement with us, we will… call for war.”

You know, I have said that Egypt could probably use its transport planes as bombers if need be. Ethiopian airforce is incompetent to do anything about it.

Egypt was producing a MOAB type bomb since the 80s called the NASR 9000, and I wonder if those are still in service. I expect a few of those would cause huge damage if hitting sensitive parts of the dam.

Fuel air bomb would be devastating to the concrete dam. /s

Shockwave generated should cause some damage.

Excerpt about MOAB

MOAB is capable of producing a concussive force which can penetrate miles of cave systems. Even if it wasn't destroyed you can't get back to operational status any time soon after an event like this.

Ethiopia's behaviour is indeed strange, but any attack on the dam will draw worldwide condemnation, mostly from the leftwing brigade. Ethiopia is a country that has suffered horrendously over the past few decades and has gone graciously well getting on its feet with this huge project building a dam and potentially exporting electricity. It all looks good and it's probably counting its chips expecting on the world to do something to prevent an Egypyian attack, but given this dam will reduce water into the Nile threatening over 30% of its agricultural land Egypt has a pretty good case to knock it out to safeguard the Nile communities.

And no country (China or Turkey) is actually going to get involved in a military conflict over such a dispute.

I don't hate either Egypt or Ethiopia nor do I favor one over the other. Have no skin the game so to speak. However, I don't see any military action by Egypt as being legitimate. Ethiopia has every right to build a dam for its needs for decades to come and while filling the lake might lower the water out flow into the Nile for a short amount of time, Egypt could instead use this time to focus on its own water resource management. How much of the Niles fresh water flows out into the Mediterranean Sea each year? Pakistan has similar issues with a history of mismanagement of its fresh water resources and both it and India have been building dams on the rivers they share for quite some time without coming to blows over it, even with lot of disagreements that exist.
Basically if Egypt can justify blowing up a Dam in Ethiopia that is essential for that country, they in turn can sabotage similar infrastructure in Egypt, be it the Suez Canal or other dams etc as well.

^This.

Also its very likely that Turkey will support Ethiopia when it comes to a war between them and Egypt so I think its unlikely that the Egyptians can do anything about it, they have to accept the dam as much as they dont want to but thats just the way it is.

Egypt is all talk no action. Got punished by Israel multiple times in humiliation. Sisi is desperate for something to show.

Egypt cannot intervene Ethiopia militarily. The international conjuncture does not allow this. Sissy continues to brk as usual. Only solution is creating dialog on mutual interests.

they don't have defenses then why they are acting like this ?

Well, it looks like they've somewhat come to their senses, at least for the moment. I don't doubt that they might have agreed yesterday with Sudan and Egypt to delay the filling of the dam for now until a comprehensive agreement is reached and signed only to buy themselves a bit of time and then go back to their old ways. Who knows, but this looks like the most that they've given to in the last few years, agreeing to not fill the dam until an agreement is reached between all 3 parties. So that's some good news, anyway.

Nah. If it threatens the lives of one, let alone millions of Egyptians, we have every right in the world to do what is necessary to save the lives of our people, especially when we've exhausted every means possible to reach a diplomatic solution and the Ethiopians do nothing but play games and spit on it like it's a joke.

Oh and let's remember to not get carried away in the fact that this doesn't concern Turkey whatsoever. And remember what the Israelis did with the Iraqi reactor and the supposed Syrian reactor? They went without anything except their perceived existential threat and bombed the crap out of both and no one peeped an eye. Maybe some condemned it and raised a bit of a stink and the Israelis gave them the middle finger and then it was over. This is MUCH WORST for Egypt and so screw anyone who would have a problem with it. They'll have to deal with it.
