Egyptian military will recieve 10 AH-64D Block II Apache Longbow helicopters in two weeks after it made the purchases five years ago.

Intelligence sources confirmed that the 10 AH-64D Block II Apache Longbow helicopters will be delivered in two weeks and that they will be used to boost counterinsurgency operations in Sinai.
Shipping procedures to ship the military helicopters are underway and within not more than two weeks, the helicopters will be delivered to Egypt.
Egyptian placed a request to Congress in 2009 for 12 Apaches with equipment, parts, training and support for an estimated $820 million.
US Defense Security Cooperation Agency, reports that the government of Egypt placed an order for 27 T700-GE-701D engines, 36 Modernized Targeting Acquisition and Designation Systems/Pilot Night Vision Sensors, 28 M299 Hellfire Longbow missile launchers, 14 AN/ALQ-144(V)3 infrared jammers, and 14 AN/APR-39B(V)2 radar signal detecting sets.

What does UncategorizedApril 24, 2014 mean on the article?

I remember Egypt requesting 12 of them even earlier than 2014 and they specifically requested the Longbow Radar with them since they were refused on all the other Apaches. Not sure if this is tied in to that contract but the figure is identical.

Not belonging to any category of the site.. it is an intelligence report.. not sorted within the sites categories..raw news..

So what is the implication of the date?
It means they were delivered in 2014 after the order was placed in 2009.. they must be already operational in the EAF..meaning also that Egypt is operating the Apaches Long Bow..in small numbers..they might be used as command and control attack helicopters for the other Apaches..

Ah, ok. Good to clarify that because one can get the impression that those are arriving 2 weeks from now! :-)

I read somewhere that the longbow radar was used for SEAD missions, where the Apache could hide behind an obstacle or hill or building while it's radar acquires targets (AA batteries?) before quickly ascending, dispatching missiles, and going back to hiding just as quickly.
Kinda like hit-and-run.

That is one of the scenarios, but the main one of the long bow is to play the command post for other Apaches to strike..
