TCL is the third largest TV manufacturer globally - based in China, and they supply a lot of TV's under their own name as well as OEM to Walmart's own in-house brand (Insignia) across North America. They bought German TV brand ROWA to sell in developing country markets like Philippines in addition to Indian subcontinent.

TCL have decided to target India, Bangladesh and Nepal in their marketing campaign now, because thing will become tougher in markets like the US in the future for sales because TCL chairman is part of the CCP leadership. Africa might also be a target later on, if not already.

Oh really what did they first do when they started?

Mostly radios then TV's made with vaccum tubes, they may have started with glowlamps (electric bulbs) like Phillips (GloeiLampenFabrieken). Making radios was a burgeoning industry in Germany around WWII until the 60's when the Japanese took over with the transistor radios. Many interesting brands came out of Germany before WWII such as Rowa, AEG-Telefunken, Robert Bosch, Grundig, Braun etc. and their products held leading marketshare as Japan was nowhere in sight as competition.

Back in the day, this was a family heirloom in my house...yes it was a Telefunken Stereo unit. Made in the early 50's in Germany and all vacuum tubes.
