Dear All,

Recently the number of duplicate threads has increased a lot and even more than two threads for the same topic are at times alive. I know newer members like to open new threads but this creates more confusion rather than providing information. Previosuly too this issue has been raised but the situation is going from bad to worst. Normally duplicate threads are merged with the other threads or left alone. What should be done to minimize this?

My suggestion is that in future such threads should be deleted and the member who initiated the thread should be punished by reducing his or her number of posts by one or perhaps more.

This shall discourage members from opening new threads without searching the forum first.

duplicate threads are a 'bane' of this forum - newbies and seniors alike want to be the first to post. all they can do is check whether the subject has been posted or started before posting a duplicate thread - all it takes is a few minutes. but unfortunately the trolls and newbies dont have the time. if you dont have the time, dont post.

Man
they are doing my head in. How on earth can one do a job, look after the family and then look at 250 threads 115-20% of which are duplicated in any case. I have earlier suggested that we limit thread opening rights to those with 150-200 posts but I dont know whether this is being acted on. We need to limit posts otherwise it would have an impact on the post quality, which, for most posters already is some where between juvenile to infantile!!

I would seriously suggest for one of the mods to take some time off, and clean out the forum. Organize all the threads for f16s under one heading, thunder under another. We also need to look seriously at not allowing newbies t open threads till they have accrued enough posts.

My suggestion. Members should be warned to look at the threads on the first page active. You can see number of threads with same topic and heading posted one above the other on the same page. So, a member posting a thread already active on the first page of any section should be suspended for a week.

However, if a thread is there on say page no 2 or 4 or 6, then no suspension of the member should be effected. In stead, the thread should be closed.
