Russian companies are heavily represented at the Dubai Airshow and they're demonstrating big ambitions for this region.

The joint Russian exhibition (pavilion: W560) has been organised by the state corporation Russian Technologies.

Rosoboronexport, the sole Russian exporter and importer of military and dual-purpose products, technologies and services, is representing a host of products from the Russian aerospace industry, including the Su-35 and MiG-29M/M2 multifunctional fighters, Yak-130 combat trainer and the Be-200 amphibious aircraft.

Nowadays military air systems make up the major part of Russia’s military sales, accounting for almost half of all foreign sales by Rosoboronexport.

Russian Helicopters, an Oboronprom United Industrial Corporation company, is turning the spotlight on the lightweight Mi-34C1, the Ka-32A11BC firefighter, and the latest update of the Mi-17, to name but a few Russian-made helicopters.

The airshow also features the products of the Compass Moscow Design Bureau, which specialises in state-of-the-art, high-precision navigation equipment.

And the latest and best models of civil and military aircraft are featured by United Aircraft Corporation, so visitors can get up close to the Sukhoi Superjet 100, Sukhoi Business Jet and MS-21.
A Russian Technologies spokesman said: “We see the Dubai Airshow as a fantastic opportunity to showcase the key achievements from the Russian aircraft industry.

“We have scheduled a number of meetings with existing and prospective customers during the event. We see the Middle East and North Africa as a region with good prospects for Russia with regards to the development of military and technical co-operation.”

Mi-17 is a true workhorse, it's done us a lot of service in the FATA/Swat campaign.
Any country that buys that bird will never regret their decision.

Russian is atleast 20 years behind usa in aviation technology, only countries that want a cheap airforce will buy from them, Only thing which they have which is a littlt eye catching is their anti air missile systems, other than that, they are nothing.

Ok..I will not bother asking for explanation for that part.

Going to the civilian sector,I hear they are doing quite good there. The Sukhoi Superjet 100 is the most important project I think and they have already received orders for about 300 jets, big numbers for passenger plane. The operational cost is also lower as they claim.

Russia’s Su-30MK maker boasts order portfolio for 300 fighters

DUBAI, November 15

Russia’s Irkut corporation said on Tuesday it had secured orders for at least 300 Su-30MK fighters and that it had already delivered over half of them.

Orders have been placed by India, Algeria and Malaysia, Irkut’s marketing director Andrei Alyoshin said at the Dubai Airshow 2011.

Over 200 of the aircraft have already been delivered to customers, Irkut said.

The Su-30MK Flanker is a multirole twin-engine, two-seater for all-weather, air-to-air and air-to-surface deep interdiction missions.

Su-family fighters constitute the bulk of Russia's arms exports.

Russia may sell air defense systems, helicopters to Saudi Arabia

November 14

Russia is close to signing new contracts with Saudi Arabia on the export of helicopters and air defense missiles systems in addition to recent arms deals with Riyadh, state-run arms exporter Rosoboronexport said on Monday.

“Rosoboronexport has already signed a number of big contracts [with Saudi Arabia], and they are being implemented,” deputy head of Rosoboronexport Alexander Mikheyev said at the Dubai-2011 airshow. He did not specify the ongoing agreements with Saudi Arabia.

“We have also done intensive work on new contracts, including on helicopters and air defense systems. Russia is ready to continue these negotiations as soon as the Saudi Defense Ministry makes a decision," Mikheyev said.

Russia has been negotiating a $6 bln-arms deal with Saudi Arabia since 2007.

The “arms package” reportedly includes T-90S main battle tanks, BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles, Mi-35 (Hind) attack helicopters, and Mi-17 (Hip) multirole helicopters, as well as Pansir-S1 air defense systems.

Several media sources have also mentioned that Russia could sell advanced S-300 or even S-400 air defense missile systems to Saudi Arabia.

Potential arms sales to Saudi Arabia would be a major breakthrough for Russia, as the Saudi arms market has been dominated by the United States and Britain since the Soviet era.
