There are short range IR-guided missiles and long range radar-guided missiles.
Radar-guided missiles could possibly be jammed by powerful and sophisticated EW stations, or foiled by chaff.
IR-guided missiles could possibly be jammed by powerful and sophisticated DIRCM stations, or foiled by flares.

It is safe to assume that a drone has none of these. An IR-guided missile can miss a target that is not hot enough.

And why didnt your planes use the Gun on board the F 16

The drone came from Syria, not Lebanon.
Russian drones are operated in the border, which could've slipped into the Israeli territory by mistake.
The drone was ordered to come back, and no steps taken neither against either Syria or Lebanon, which only makes you understand that this was an accident.

Here in Israel, we report stuff even if it's not the administration's favour, unlike in Iran.
As a fact, we did report the failure.
Iran can claim what ever it wants, it can claim it made up fighter planes, photoshop it's missile tests and shoot down monkies in space, but the fact is Iran is nothing but a backward country. Couldn't even make nuclear bombs in tens of years of trying to do so.
as for the subject in hand, the failure to intercept the missile still under investigation by the IAF, and we'll know more facts in the future. as for the moment, it seems to be the searcher drone.
