The The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Monday launched the 800-km range Nirbhay cruise missile from Odisha’s test facility into the Bay of Bengal but decided to abort the trial a few minutes later.

Nirbhay LACM was being tested for the first time with India's own Manik engine. All previous tests were done with Russian engines.

This was maiden test flight of the Nirbhay cruise missile using new experimental engine and few other new subsystems.

The old system has completed its testing life cycle and deployed on the LAC.
