Didn't know Just a plane includes an AESA antenna on top capable of surveying 300km distance on both sides along with a SATCOM antenna... aswell as communication and IFF probles... a command and control center... etc.. etc... for you.

There is no AESA at the top..Its a dummy being used for flight testing....
The real AWACS system is still awork in progress,although its near completion..It was displayed at defexpo 2012 in India.
It has yet to be fitted on this aircraft....

The Antenna was made by LRDE long time ago.... the antenna in the current form was seen at the AERO-India 2007.

Some of the systems are installed in the aircraft, including the antenna; cos of its weight, dimensions and weight distribution; to get flight certification. The most critical parts e.g. computers, control consoles etc were simulated with ballast weights for reasons of confidentiality. That will be done now, since only Indian technicians will be working with the aircraft.
