DRDO achievements in 2011 : Dr Saraswat

I hope 2% of our gdp is invested in DRDO,ISRO, TIFR,IIT,IISc and other research institutes.

I agree with you that we need to spend more on R&D and add CSIR to that. I think CSIR needs complete overhaul like DRDO.

Actually India has made one air to surface munition CL20 or ICL20
Scientists at the Pune-based High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) have already synthesized adequate quantity of CL-20 in the laboratory. "It is the most powerful non-nuclear explosive yet known to man," says Dr. AK Sikder, Joint Director, HEMRL, who heads the High Energy Materials Division. The compound, 'Indian CL-20' or ICL-20, was indigenously synthesized in the HEMRL laboratory using inverse technology, he added.
Dude ICL-20 is a version of CL-20 which is most powerful explosive in the world not any bomb or glide bomb. It is explosive.

Going to change ammunition industry. A good leap by india.

Kinetic is right, they have just synthesized it. Weaponization will take time.

Opps my bad thanks for pointing out
anyways where does it stands which weapons will use this explosive???

Dr Sikder said, “It offers the only option within the next 10-15 years to meet the requirements of the Indian armed forces for futuristic weapons.” It can be used in 120-mm main gun mounted on the Arjun tanks. The cost is one factor that could be inhibitive. While a normal explosive costs about Rs 6,000 per kg, the CL-20 would cost a whopping Rs 70,000 per kg.

The DRDO has tied up with an Andhra Pradesh-based private company to produce some 100 kg of this explosive.

I think this can be used for missile warheads apart from tank munitions. More power to Arjun. Thanks for the link. :)
