Dozens of Myanmar troops killed fighting northern rebels

I'm reading that Kokang people are Han Chinese, apparently they speak Mandarin? So these are Chinese minorities ?

Kokang people - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kokang is one of way Myanmar name Chinese.

Not just Kokang, a lot of Myanmar ethnic warlord speak Chinese or are supported by CPC. A big question mark is how CPC manage to support rebels and yet have good relationship with junta.

Apparently things are very convoluted.

The impression I got from Chinese sources is CPC seems to acknowledge the inevitability of Barmese supremacy.

What they are fighting for. and 1000 is big figure with 105mm Howitzer and HMG

That is nothing. There is even a larger rebel army in Myanmar called the Shan State Army and is roughly 2 divisions strong; between 15,000 to 18,000 strong.

This region is arguably a flashpoint region since Northern Burma borders Yunnan and is in close proximity with Guangxi as well; both large and heavily populated provinces in China. I'd say that the fact that the Kokangs are ethnic Han and inhabit a territory with contiguous border with Yunnan --- this is the reason why the Burmese will evade an all out assault, as it is too close to Chinese core territory. Any massive fighting may result in cross border refugee crossing and would agitate the PLA to intervene . Very precarious situation Rangoon is placed in , I conjecture....

Seems the strongest is the Wa state. And in Wa states, the elites are all Chinese speaking. Below the anti drug drive of Wa state have Chinese character bigger than the Romanize passage of no sure what language.

Wa State even has their own mechanize infantry.

Lux,

I just did a reading on the United Wa State Army; these guys have a larger army than Laos' Army, better armed at that. The Wa State Army is 5 divisions strong; 30,000 active military men plus 10,000 on auxiliary reserves. These guys have deployed HN-5N and FN-6 surface to air missiles throuhout it's territory --- all supplied by China! Recently the Wa Army received Mil-17 attack helicopters armed with air to air and air to ground missiles vis-a-vis China, not including numerous ground vehicles with anti tank warfare capability.

Didn't know how "involved" China is in Burmese internal affairs. Really really amazed by this. It's funny too because Burmese junta also purchases military materiel from China, lol.

There are also the Kachin state which also share the border with China. There are large Kachins community living across the border in China that are sympathetic. In the 2011 conflict, tens of thousands refugees fled across to china. China wants good relationship with Burma but China must also not alienate the local Kachins. Its a Headache for China.

There is also the KMT Nationalist army that fled to Burma after losing to the Communists.

Fake news bro.. Army already got this new and find through their camp.. Nothing Found..!! UWSA claim that they didnt involved in this action and if needed they will stand for Army and fight back to MNDAA , KIA , TNLA combined force.. however they defintely has HN-5 and already admitted it..

It's funny too because Burmese junta also purchases military materiel from China, lol.

that's not funny.. bro.. we're under arm embargoes and we has no choice... China made are most suitable with Myanmar's current economy and condition...

Now Bridge 33 arrived and starting counter operations...

These areas have historically been the buffer zone between China and Burma with locals pretty much left along by both sides. China has no issue with Burma's authority and sovereignty, but would prefer these states to retain their autonomy.

Rohingyas should be armed that way...

if they choose the way of war.. nothing to say...And if something happen., plz blame them choosing of wrong way..

BTW, So called Rohingya are ever never our tribe.. if they arm , they will be the same way of RSO and we will not be gentle like our brother ethnic rebels.. response like A CONVECTIONAL WAR .. So BD must be sure not to give any weapon and land support.. or we will do wipe out the whole area of them like 1980s...

I never heard Rohingya wants to be your tribe. Gentle--- LOL
You will be kicked left and right by chinese tribes as well as karen tribes only because they were backed and armed by China and Thailand. Yet you are the biggest fan of those two countries. BD and Rohingyas wanted every effort to resolve issues peacefully but you also know how bloody it will turn if we want it other way. Thats why you are so afraid of these tiny tiny minorities.

The Myanmar government and four ethnic armed groups signed an agreement to build a state based on democracy and a federal system yesterday in Nay Pyi Taw.

The four groups are the Karen National Union (KNU), Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA), Karen National Liberation Army and Shan State Restoration Council/Shan State Army.

The parties promised to work for freedom, equality, justice for all ethnic groups and toward the enactment of the historic Pinlon Agreement of 1947 to ensure the non-disintegration of the union, the non-disintegration of the national solidarity and the perpetuation of sovereignty.

The signatories also designated a nationwide ceasefire treaty as the main objective of their political talks, and then to hold a political dialogue after signing the nationwide ceasefire plan.

They also pledged to hold preliminary political talks before the 2015 general election and to refrain from armed skirmishes other actions that could damage the peace process.

President Thein Sein said: “The people expect us to sign it. We need to fulfil the people’s hope. We will continue to carry out our process to achieve peace. When we look at the view of the individual and organisations, they are eager to have peace. All want to achieve peace."

"We want peace and national reconciliation. It is our job. We have been discussing it for a long time. We are building mutual trust. Now leaders from both sides are shaking hands. The trust is built among higher ranks. But we need time to build trust between middle and lower ranks. Although the higher rank said not to fight, the fighting is still occurring as no mutual trust has been established in middle and lower ranks," the president said.

"We have two objectives in stopping the fighting. One is to hold political dialogue. No one can guarantee a ceasefire completely. However, there is a negotiation team that can control the fighting. Ethnic minority communities, especially in the border areas, are suffering from the fighting," he said.

Saw Kual Htoo, General Secretary of KNU, said: “We will try to reach a nationwide ceasefire. We will seek a solution to the conflicts with political dialogue. We promised to implement the ceasefire agreement. There are so many groups in the talks. When the Pinlon Agreement was signed, only three or four groups signed. General Aung San from government and delegates from Shan, Chin and Kachin attended the Pinlon meeting. Now there are so many ethnic groups. Ethnic armed groups and ethnic parties are included. And then government, president and parliament are involved too. But the important thing is the promise. If they break the promise, the fighting will break out again.”

Hla Maung Shwe from the Myanmar Peace Centre said: “The signing was proposed by the ethnic leaders. It was not initiated by the government. Some organisations may have higher expectations. Twenty ministers and the president, two vice presidents, the lower house and upper house speakers and the chairperson of the election commission signed the agreement. Three lieutenant generals also signed the agreement. I understand this promise is a promise to people who want peace. It is not a bond. In my view, I think we should sign the agreement as we can continue to discuss peace.”

“I don’t blame the ethnic groups who haven’t signed the agreement yet. We have pledged to continue to reach our goal. It is not a bond, and it will not hold us back with promises. It is just a pledge,” he continued.

We already have got agreement with the Karan and Shan tribes.. UWSA (Wa state) and Mei Lar also claim that they will stand with Army.. who left..? LOL

First step towards disintegration. LOL

Did you read anywhere the submission of arms? Any deal without submission of arms means to accept a state within a state and eventual breakups.

Rohingya did fought and they lost the war. Arakan is not suitable to conduct hit and run war fare as they are flat. The Kachin land is piece of rain forest in mountains. Barmese cant flush them out if they wish to fight.

There is no such thing like Barmese being gentle to their insurgence. They are basically drive their minorities into refugee camps in Thailand and China in hundreds of thousands.
