Intellectual freedom should be guarded until the act is caused deliberately to insult - in which case the person ceases to be an intellectual and gets reduced to a hatemonger.

I don't have any problem with pk being shown, but I have the right to express my opinions about it. Protesting against it or supporting it - both are within my rights. I just hope the next time Taslima Nasrin or Salman Rusdie comes to India, there will not be a great hue and cry. Because that would expose the selective bias that we are accustomed to.

Why you think that Hindu right groups were protesting about the movie ?

I do think that Taslima Nasrin and Salman Rushdie would be given platform but what will be the message ? One is Bangladeshi and another is British national. Expression is always a right and even i do agree on this but are we seriously allowed to express ourselves ?

There have been many high profile cases such as of Bharat Shah, Nadeem Singer and even in some movies Chota Shakeel putted money etc and all these things are linked to D gang and Dawood Ibrahim according to Interpol is in Pakistan etc.

Here its more about the Producer of that movie and Shiv Sena is making the claims and even ARY connections etc.

no big fuss... this movie grossed above 300 crores. this protest made people flock to the theaters. A cheap way to gain publicity but have to give it to the producers and director of the movie. As far as ISI link is concerned .... ARY was a promotional partner of PK in dubai ... and some people took it as ISI funded movie.

The movie did over 200 crores in 9-10 days, before the protest (can't really call them protest, vandalism by a few goons, that's what it was) started. So that statement is unfounded. People loved the movie that is why it is doing well.

I have seen this movie as well.The basic idea wasn't bad.However, the way of delivering it might have been considered as inappropriate. It would be much better if they have only targetted those pundits, maulvis and missionaries which are looting us in the name of religion and maligning it's images rather than religion itself.
This problem is common in both indo-pak, so relax!

true. Religions despite all its flaws and glorification of unknown and sugar coated lies etc etc ( as per an atheist ) do provide a kind of hope to the common human being. when a person i struggling against massive odds with nothing but his will power to depend on this glimmer of hope works wonders. One may dismiss it as Placebo Effect but you can not deny its power.

So when this basic foundation of hope is challenged and attacked .. reaction is natural. However if everything is done ( protest etc) is done within constitutional frame work i do not have any issue.
