What's new

Dont slam ‘PK’ without even seeing it: Hindu leader

Did you mean Water, Fire, Madras Cafe etc:undecided:
Never seen Fire. How is it? Water was good. Madras Cafe was also quite good, though not as much as I expected. Good films, them.
Why would you pick these movies, I sure as hell missed the relevance... :(

The movie did over 200 crores in 9-10 days, before the protest (can't really call them protest, vandalism by a few goons, that's what it was) started. So that statement is unfounded. People loved the movie that is why it is doing well.

It is started by that senile Swamy who seems to have lost his mind lately. His tweets are so stupid these days it makes me feel sad for his followers.
200 crores in India, Pakistan, Middle East, US, UK etc. Many went out to evaluate and judge the content. That is a welcome move. Does not mean it is loved. Justin Bieber's baby is a hit on Youtube, so is Taher Shah's Eye to Eye - does not mean they are exactly 'loved'. :D

Wrt Swamy, his latest 'senile' allegation of Sunanda Pushkar's murder has recently come true ( moments ago actually). This has become a trend, and with feathers like 2G etc in his cap, I won't be dismissive of him. Most Indians would admire his guts and honest approach. ;)

Exactly. Those who are hurt are wrong. You are right. :enjoy:
Obviously.
those who are hurt while seeing a drama actor shiv running hilariously, need to see a psychiatrist. the ruckus created by hooligans in the name of protest is just a pretext of flexing the hindu muscle.
after all, we just dont give a hoot about the other ills of our society. religion and the sentiments attached to it bring u votes, genuine issues dont.

When Hindu groups are raising this issue even when the movie was allowed by Censor board which is under the Ministry of information and Broadcasting then its needed to be think what this whole issue is about. I do agree with you that OMG movie was even critic but the role played by Akshay kumar as Lord Krishna done the balance.
the only issue is the timing of the release of the two films.
unfortunately, just as the previous BJP led govt in the centre, this govt also is tied up when it comes to controlling these fringe elements.

. .
so can some indian here tell me what the big fuss is over this movie? Why are hardliner saffron groups publicly belittling Aamir Khan and labelling the movie as funded by the ISI (lol)
because these ppl are illiterate and they just need a pretext to create a hue n cry to advertise their representation of hinduism. its appalling to see these pricks could only pick out the "drama actor in shiva form" running while very conveniently overlooking hundreds of ills which were shown emanating from the religious centers, not only hinduism.
ppl ask, why target only hinduism ??? i say, those nutjobs should be slapped and told that 80% of indians (who enjoy bollywood) are hindus.

I have seen this movie as well. The basic idea wasn't bad. However, the way of delivering it might have been considered as inappropriate. It would be much better if they have only targetted those pundits, maulvis and missionaries which are looting us in the name of religion and maligning it's images rather than religion itself.
This problem is common in both indo-pak, so relax!
Regards

Have you seen OMG. It has targeted all (but specially Hindu God men not Gods) and in that God appeared to explain the hippocracy and therefore it did not face the opposition.

PK is the only bollywood movie which i watched in cinema in Pakistan. Movie is great as it expose those fake Mullah pir pundit padri etc whose source of income is fooling ignorant dumb followers in the name of religion and exploiting their fear of God

PK: Not quite out of this world - Newspaper - DAWN.COM

For once, the entire film fraternity has to applaud the robust stance taken by India’s Censor Board of Film Certification for not buckling under the pressure of the self-professed guardians of Hindu religion who are baying for a ban on Aamir Khan’s latest release, PK.

he irony of this insistence can’t be missed. Within 10 days of its release the film has already set a record at the box office collection —over INR 200 crores in the Indian market! So any claims by Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and some Hindu outfits that the film hurts the sentiments of Hindus referring to a particular scene of a stage actor attired as Lord Shiva, is in itself laughable.

Adding to this were the tweets by ruling political party BJP member and former Cabinet minister Dr Subramaniam Swamy who claimed that the film was funded by the ISI and some people from Dubai. Always a controversial politician, he got a lot of flak on social media for this claim.

From ET to PK, Bollywood gets its own popular alien

The audience knows that the film is a satire, and nowhere questions the existence of the Almighty. In fact, it goes on to raise questions about self-styled religious zealots exploiting the common fears of the public at large and the inconsistency among different faiths in regard to rituals, customs, dress etc.

After all it’s a Rajkumar Hirani film so naturally one expects it to be entertaining but at the same time talk about social issues. Remember his first three films — Munna Bhai MBBS and its sequel Lage Raho Munna Bhai, and then 3 Idiots? In PK, Hirani tackles the highly sensitive issue of religion, self-appointed men of God, their divisive religious practices and exploitations of people’s fears.

Expectations are very high of anything from the house of RHF (Raju Hirani Films). Sadly PKisn’t one of his best, but even with all its drawbacks, the last big release of the year is still far above the clutter of nonsensical cinema we have had in 2014 from Bollywood.

The film says something very relevant and after coming out of the theatre makes you want to discuss religion, faith and divine existence. Even if you are agnostic, the questions raised and tackled in PK makes you think, if not at an intellectual level, but at least at a Bollywood level.

One thing very laudable, and I really wish other script writers would learn from the duo of Hirani and his writing partner Abhijat Joshi, is precise script and dialogue writing. Except for a romantic unwanted song, there isn’t much one could have done away in the story.

I mean after all it’s a Hindi film and so songs and dances are important ingredients of it. That is one of the jarring notes of the film; why make an alien sing? Yes, the story is all about an alien (Aamir Khan) visiting planet Earth and trying to decipher the idiosyncratic behaviour of earthlings. He is bewildered by their actions, which makes him comment, “Hamri goley (planet) pe koi jhoot nahin bolta. Yeh pe to lul hoi gayi hamri life.”

In the entire film Aamir speaks a Rajasthani dialect as unfortunately he lands from his spaceship on a remote desert strip of Rajasthan and he imbibes the local language. In his planet they don’t hav

vandalism started later but demand to ban PK came up on the very first day. It was trending at top. Although i get your point, it was a good movie.

First of all there was absolutely nothing anywhere for the first week or so. Secondly if twitter trend helped movies earn money that every movie with big stars would be blockbusters. Controversy, hyper promotion or anything of that sort can only give you 2-3 days of business maximum. After that the content speaks. The movie has an IMDB rating on 8.7, a clear indicaton that people liked it a lot. Personally I think it was a good attempt but the second half could have been a lot better.

200 crores in India, Pakistan, Middle East, US, UK etc. Many went out to evaluate and judge the content.

No in India alone. It earned 200 crore net (gross collection - entertainment tax) in India alone in 9 days. There was no controversy till then.

Wrt Swamy, his latest 'senile' allegation of Sunanda Pushkar's murder has recently come true ( moments ago actually). This has become a trend, and with feathers like 2G etc in his cap, I won't be dismissive of him. Most Indians would admire his guts and honest approach. ;)

LOL. Sunanda Puskar's death was mysterious to many of us not just Swamy. If he had any proof of any clear mischief he would have gone to the police, not twitter.

Have you seen his so called "proof" of ISI funding? His proof consists of a photo of a promotional event in Dubai where they have an ARY logo in the background and a poster from the Pakistan release which carries the logo of a Pakistani company. I am sorry but only people with very low intelligence would take those as proof of anything.
