Interestingly a lot of those 90000 were Hindus and a lot of the Indian army that made those 90000 Pakistanis surrender were Muslims. That's the problem with most Pakistanis. You are confused between State and religion. Everything between India and Pakistan is not Hindu-Muslim tangle.

The only issue is that Russian tech was cheap and rugged and India was able to equip its forces economically. Western tech is expensive. Contrary to common perception, India does not have infinite amounts available to replace all the Russian gear with Western hardware. It is wishful thinking. Just like the US, Russians will supply to both India and Pakistan and both sides will use a mix of equipment.

Actually its good for pakistan that they are getting Russian hardware better than chinese. However,India is moving away from Russian hardware as soon as possible.India started looking at Pvt Industry for many hardware which was traditionally dominated by Russian. For eg: FICV
India Rejects BMP-3 Offer, Will Maintain FICV Program

India will not shelve its homegrown $10 billion Futuristic Infantry Combat Vehicle (FICV) program in favor of advanced Russian BMP-3 combat vehicles.

The decision was conveyed to the Russian side at the Nov. 18 meeting of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military Technical Cooperation held in Moscow, officials said.

During Russian President Vladmir Putin’s visit to India last December, the Russians offered to transfer technology for its BMP-3 infantry combat vehicles if India agreed to shelve its indigenous FICV program, which will see production of 2,600 vehicles to replace aging BMP-1 and BMP-2 combat vehicles.
