As for the superbugs, 58,000 newborns dieing out of 25 million live births each year is like 0.2%. Even when you look at Infant mortality rate as the base figure (40 per 1000 births i.e 1 million deaths)....it still comes to a figure of about 6%.

Tons of countries have problem with superbugs. They have been reporting this fear for years now.

Bridge will go on ahead, fear mongers and haters will continue as usual. World moves on. Pro India Ranil and Sirisena will rule SL for many years to come and Rajapaksa family will be consumed by corruption cases....and his Chinese backed white elephant projects will be reviewed and Indian security concerns taken care of. “India should press for international probe”

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Thol. Tirumavalavan demanded that India should push for an independent international probe into the genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka.

Addressing a protest meeting organised by the party here on Monday, Mr. Tirumavalavan said that 1.5 lakh Tamils were massacred in the island nation. “It was important that the accused in the killing of Tamils should be booked and punished by the International Court,” he said.

Stating that the Tamil diaspora was pressing for this demand, Mr. Tirumavalvan pointed to the resolution passed to this effect by the Tamil Nadu Assembly. He wanted the Centre to take a cue from the Assembly resolution and push for an international probe.

Even five years after the war was over, Tamils in Sri Lanka had not got protection. Their farms and houses were taken over by the Singhalese military and Tamils were made to suffer, he said.

He wondered why the US, China and the United Nations remained mute spectators when innocent people were massacred in Sri Lanka.

Chennai based Young Tamil Nadu Movement protests against Lankan PM's India visit

Members of the Young Tamil Nadu Movement (YTNM) staged a protest here on Wednesday against Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's visit to India.

Supporters of the Chennai-based group showed banners and raised slogans against Wickremesinghe.

One of the protestors demanded that the Indian Government should snap all economic, political and cultural ties with Sri Lanka.

"We strongly condemn the reception given to Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. For the past six years after the Mullivaikal massacre, all Tamils across the world have been demanding all states to boycott Sri Lankain all terms. The Indian Government should end its economic, political and cultural ties with them," he said.

"The Tamil Nadu Assembly has also passed a resolution demanding the Indian Government to cut its economic ties with Sri Lanka. The Indian Government is ignoring our demands for the last six years," he added.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Assembly has adopted a resolution seeking international probe against the Sri Lankan Government on alleged war crimes against the Tamils.

Wickremesinghe arrived in the national capital earlier on Monday on a three-day bilateral visit.

This is Wickremesinghe's first official international visit after assuming the Prime Minister's office last month.

Tamil Nadu seeks probe against Sri Lanka for alleged war crimes as Lankan PM Ranil Wickremesinghe visits India to strengthen ties

Chennai, Sept 16: The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Wednesday adopted a resolution seeking international probe against Sri Lanka government for alleged war crimes committed in 2009 in Northern Sri Lanka. Interestingly, all this is happening while Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is on a three-day visit to India to deepen strategic cooperation for “peace and stability” in the region.

Referring to the report released by the US, which had earlier favoured international probe into the alleged human rights violations and war crimes during the peak of hostilities in Sri Lanka in 2009, the state government led by Jayalalithaa alleged that the US had now altered its stand and is in favour of internal probe. The ruling AIADMK government passed which moved the resolution, was passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly unanimously and was supported even by the opposition parties.
