What's new

Does India do this kind of training?

actually it is impractical if you are in plains..you can't achieve any elevation from plain and it'll blow just in front of you(maybe on your face) and blow your whole crew..and this is not new..by the way,there is similar scene in Saving Private Ryan..look this..

know about this man???Beauford T. Anderson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

he got Medal Of Honor for helding Japanese with firing carbine and throwing mortar..but still,it is quite impractical..

I hope India engages in such training...for extreme cases. Its a great tactic and allows flexibility

Thanks but No Thanks! :P
Apart from (!probably!) enabling great savings in not having to spend money on Artillery; it has ZERO benefits! Of course, it would make for very interesting (an impressive) footage in a Jackie Chan movie.

BTW, please ask our Professionals here on PDF e.g. @fatman17 or @Indian Army how worthwhile this kind of exercise is!! :lol:

The first thing that anybody here with any practical knowledge of Gunnery will tell you about the potential hazards of a "misfire" in carrying out such "Ramboesque Stunts". Of course one can recommend such tactics to the North Korean or Somali Armies. :D

Otherwise just a Cr@pload of $hit.

Seriously ??? Man these guies are fuc@ing Rambos :rofl:
Indian army Please don't do anything like that , our Arties are coming :D

The PLA does some weird training that doesn't seem to serve any actual tactical purpose other than PR and propaganda.

The Indian military is a proffesional force and they devlop and adapt whatever training they see fit.

To me these displays don't have any actual military benefit.

But,hey, every military is different, if the Chinese feel they need to do this then fair enough for them.

Like 18 men riding a motorbike.. Force multiplier effect.:cheesy:

This is infact ingenious.. Even if the Artillery position is destroyed.. the crew still has the ability to use the ammunition for harassment purpose.

Right, because this isn't purely for display purposes but is the IA demonstrating its new infantry combat vehicles!

Apples and oranges @Oscar sir.

Of course! If it does not blow up in their faces.........:D

@Oscar;
The force -multiplier picture that you posted is as unrelated to warfare as are Military Parades on the Drill Square or Massed Band Tattoos or Team Aerobatic Displays. Eveybody knows that.

For eg, Aerobatics and Formation flying are integral even without the display effect.
Marching too has unit cohesion and discipline. If the IA deems that somehow Motorcycling is also part of Military training then its their choice.

The same goes for the Chinese, If they feel that leaving ammunition to waste because you lost a gun then it's their tactic.
People have used land mines as IED's and even as hurled explosives to very effective results.

Yet somehow I see no other reason for Indian member's poo-poohing this other than it's Chinese.

@Oscar;
What you are speaking about is training. Training for co-ordination and discipline is different. I know the drill that I learnt either for "square-bashing" or for taking a "lying postion-by the count" on the firing range was useful; but was not part of Field-Craft.

About wiring up shells for detonation; is a tactic used both for IEDs as well as for setting Demolition Charges for structures. Not to set up an Artillery Barrage. So that is about it. The rest can be useful for creating a Mythology of Warfare.

The IA doesn't; that's the false premise that led you to the false analogy between the Chinese soliders in the video (if it is authentic), and the motorcycle display team. India does not teach all its recruits to do those kinds of stunts. It is not part of its military training. It is only an act of display, like having a gymnastics team or a bhangra dance team.

According to the OP (I still don't know how credible this is), this is apparently part of PLA's training for their army units, for use in combat. Which is why Indian members are questioning the value of the dubious benefits it has on a battlefield, and why they do not ask the same question about the motorcycling team.
