What's new

Do you support ban of crackers and holi ?

.
True. Earlier all the families in our colony would come together in one house (generally ours) and we would all fly kites and party into the night. Today hardly anyone here flies kites. Only some kids.
Same here .
When I was Kid 100 Kites/100 Meter was a normal occurrence .
Now its 5 Kites/100 Meter .

some hindus here in uk celebrate holi. it is nice and colorful. but y hindus use fireworks during diwali ? diwali is festival 2 celebrate return of lord rama 2 ayodya no ? so fireworks is chinese invention so cant be around during the time when hindu god rama was on earth ?

no, these are great festivals, wtf is wrong with you ?

specially love Holi as I feel it's more inclusive to all because colours are cheap and everyone can afford them whereas Diwali crackers, particularly these days, a bit pricey for the weaker economic sections.. but hey, it's still free to look up in the sky and enjoy the fireworks.

what I feel needs to be restricted are the db levels of some of those "atom" and "hydro" bombs, those things really mess the stray animals up, many get so paranoid and keep running without stopping and get lost from their localities, we should look out for our furry friends this diwali and not be loud, anars, rockets, ladis etc are cool.

it's the festival of lights, legend has it that the people of ayodhya lit the whole city up with rows of lamps to welcome Ram back from his epic adventure.

the pagan faith has evolved with time, not stuck in some dark century before christ, these days we drink, eat kebabs, gamble (some of us) and party with made in china fireworks. :partay:

i dont think hindu god rama will like followers 2 burn fireworks and make animals poop or die with fright no ? so maybe hindus must go back 2 rows of lamps. all pagans drink 2 much and gamble

eat, drink, be merry... enjoy the fireworks.

I too, hope that the pagans start to be a bit more empathetic to the plight of the strays, there is growing awareness on it, pollution too.

people used the same logic to question azan every morning when people are sleeping... do you really need loudspeakers?
Did mohammed know about loud speakers? did allah know about loudspeakers in 7th century? Its a modern western invention.
Muslims replied 'its our duty to spread it as loudly as possible, its in our religion' or something..

i support ban on firecrackers in india, not only for diwali for through out the year, even for weddings and political engagements.

there was recent the case of the parents of three toddlers who filed a petition in the supreme court in the name of the toddlers, asking supreme court to call for ban on firecrackers... sad that the supreme court did not take a brave stand.

what the supreme court should have done for the moment is limit diwali firecrackers to one hour on the actual diwali day and that too in a event to be organized by the city authority and with limitation on rockets and ban on bombs ( whether the "sau ki ladi" or the "sutli bomb" ) and pistol caps... in the british chat show, "graham norton show", the actor, hugh jackman, once spoke of how in the beginning of his career, he was once a anchor to a national day in his native australia and the even included 45 minutes ( i think ) of fireworks in that public event... it should be done that way in india for the way and work towards a full ban and of course re-purpose the factories towards a new product line and ensure the unneeded workers get new employment.

i have long wanted loudspeakers banned for azaan... and your logic is right... and jamal abdul nasser of eygpt had once banned loudspeakers as part of his campaign against the ikhwaan movement.

there are 300,000+ mosques in india, the world's highest number, and collectively they would produce noise rather than pleasant sound, plus they lead to bad vibes in the localities... it is simply not good.

when indian muslims ask for ban on temple loudspeakers, they should be ready to remove loudspeakers from mosques as well.

azaan was originally the call to prayer in the initial phase of islam's establishment but in today's circumstance when there are alarm clocks and cell phones that can receive call from mosques at certain times, the loudspeaker has no place.

very few temples use loud speakers, its only some temples that use... and yes its equally annoying.
I can live with 1 or 2 days of crackers being burnt, but not everyday azan/bhajan at unholy hours.
As to crackers during events like festivals, marriages etc, they should have one law for all these nuisance. No noise after 9 PM and before 7 AM. Whatever might be source of noise.

Loudspeaker azan is a global phenomena, including egypt. Not Indian one.

Bursting crackers is waste of money & more pollution. If ppl burst few crackers for symbolism and are done with , its ok but bursting through day & night is really bad.

Holi, if ppl are not interested please dont throw colours at them not every one thinks dirtying their clothes is funny. They can symbolically smear color and let them go.

NO and NO with a capital "N" and capital "O"

why, with small w, h and y??

Three babies petition Supreme Court seeking ban on firecrackers during Diwali | Latest News & Updates at Daily News & Analysis

Move to Ban Crackers This Diwali Turned Down by Supreme Court

Diwali : Festival of Light . Candles , Diya , Lights should be used . No to crackers .

good idea.

I can live with 1 or 2 days of crackers being burnt, but not everyday azan/bhajan at unholy hours.

it is never one or two days, is it?? and even one or two days of absolute madness must be stopped !!

i am especially pained from seeing the terror crackers generate in cats... any city worth calling itself civilized must take care of cats to the fullest... ah, well, they are anyway going to be extinct in india soon.

and then there is the insane and callous criminality that young fellows and families and neighborhood thugs get up to in during diwali and ganesha festival... once, while standing in a shop, i saw three young fellows, maybe of 17, standing on a residential side road at a distance, with a bottle and rocket... they lit the rocket and aimed it in the general direction of the main road... the rocket passed about five feet above the canopy of the shop... and they were laughing and not even looking at where the rocket passed !!

one mental christian family near my house, with six kids from two ( or three ) daughters ), a dog and a generally noisy attitude all year round, also fire rockets carelessly from their roof... once, one rocket banged against the drawing room

and then the newspapers next day carry reports of people being damaged by firecrackers, especially in the eye.

As to crackers during events like festivals, marriages etc, they should have one law for all these nuisance. No noise after 9 PM and before 7 AM. Whatever might be source of noise.

you say after 9 pm but in my area, some burst crackers after 10 too and even during rains !! :girl_wacko:

Loudspeaker azan is a global phenomena, including egypt. Not Indian one.

doesn't matter... a ban in india, with the second largest muslim population and the largest number of mosques, can set a precedent.
