What's new

Do you cook ?

Yes, I do. Mostly Arab (Turkish too but it's close) and Southern European cuisine (French and Italian). Occasionally I try to make more complicated dishes from more foreign cuisines such as those found in Mexico, Thailand and South Asia.

I try not to make too time consuming dishes and dishes that do not require ingredients that can be difficult to buy even in metropolises such as Paris and Copenhagen.

I eat a lot of rice, bulgur, pasta, vegetables, meat, fruit, fish etc. Dairy products too obviously.

Basically a mixture of Arab/ME cuisine and Mediterranean. Two cuisines that are quite if not very similar although we Arabs tend to be less health conscious when it comes to sweats/food that contains sugar and consumption of meat.

For instance I often make a salsa to my rice, bulgur or pasta made out of aubergines, olive oil, salt, pepper, basil, chili, oregano, tomato etc.

Very simple to make. It takes less than 20 minutes.

It's a standard salsa to the rice in Hijaz (aubergine not always used though) and other parts of the Arab world and it's almost identical to the "Sicilian salsa al pasta". It must have spread to Sicily and the remaining part of Italy during the Arab rule of Sicily.

Here is a video in English. I can highly recommend it to everyone.

I have also heard that Vietnamese food is very tasty and easy to make but the problem is that most of their meat is pork much like other East Asians.

Unfortuantely I am less accustomed to cooking anything Malaysian and Indonesian although I suspect that it would be ideal for my taste.

@Indos

I do cook.
Last time i cooked 'Konak Kebabı' :azn:

I love Adana Kebab.

The best Arab-Turkish fusion in terms of Kebab.:)

I could personally eat it at least 2 times each week if not more, lol.

I have never heard about Konak Kebabi. May I ask from which region it is in Turkey and how it differs from Adana Kebab? Turks in general make great Kebabs.

many people on PDF cook conspiracies and stories

About Food: Yes I can do bit of cooking but not much (mostly playing with eggs)

Not only conspiracies but sometimes (more often than preferred) utter lunacy my friend. Good one.

Anyway there can be no question that cooking is one of the pleasures of life. I won't marry a woman that cannot cook and if she cannot I will teach her.

I cook desi foods regularly so I am expert of it. I wish to learn making pizza or cakes because its something which I never cooked and I love pizzaa

Mostly cook meat (red and white both) dishes NOT good at vegetarian dishes except Channa Daal, Bhindi (Okra) (These two my favorites so I learned them). On weekends normally go out to eat.

There you go. Yes, those who 'genuinely' appreciate something, love to learn about it. I love soups, all kinds of, and I prepare them myself too. Those who work in Chemistry/Biochemistry labs are generally good at cooking too for it is all about mixing things in correct ratios and cooking at right temperature for right time.

Pffft,
I lived with my uncle and has "All American" wife, and my cousin who is one if those blondies who are spoilt to the very core, whenever I would eat anything she would bitch about the calories and all that it was impossible to eat if she or her friends were around (which was always), so my uncle and I would go out every night at this diner and feast (literally), because honestly my "All American" aunt only knows how to make salads.
Ohh,

That's a nightmare situation...It is still confusing (sorry to say) blondies are normally depicted to have no brains ... wonder how she was obsessed to fitness.

@levina Do you think can this suggestion work?

Great,
Now I'm hungry, gonna make a snack. Damn you PDF.

hahaha

Agree. Also, to be honest with you "khawateen" have created a big deal about cooking, I realized that now...in fact it is a very enjoyable activity. I guess for them the most dull moment is to decide what to cook today...

P.S. I don't have anything against "khawateen"; was just stating my observations.

Well, they do it because it is not only about cooking, they have to take care of the entire household. My wife, for instance, has to take care of three kids, her two children, and yours truly.

Lol nice one :p,
It's not blondes, my aunt is a genuinely nice person and all that, but my cousin she's a spoilt brat and that coming from me is really saying something. And she pisses me off so much that I once genuinely thought of pushing her onto oncoming traffic.

Syed Bhai that holds certainly true here in US (and abroad etc) where you have to take care of everything yourself (normally people don't have maids for regular daily cleaning like we have back home, they have to hire a babysitter if both husband and wife work (have jobs) to take care of the kids). But what about Pakistan? there you have maids...drivers...plus if you live in joint family then plenty of people to take care of your kids too...

You are absolutely right brother. My wife complaints that when we were in States, I used to help her a lot with doing dishes, laundry, even cooking. Now that we are in Malaysia, I don't lend her hand. Well that is true for when in States, I really used to help her. Like you said, labor is so expensive that people tend to do everything by themselves. I even taught myself to fix small things in my car, changing oil, etc. (I bought myself car maintenance manual). However, once in Malaysia, well I am in Asia now. Joke aside, it is always good to lend hand to your spouse. I have radically changed my habits in recent years just to help my wife. I no longer demand for chapatti in breakfast, bread does the job. We eat very simple food at-least thrice weekly, that is, soup with rice so no more cumbersome Pakistani cooking. There are many thing that can be done and must be done.

True, and coming out from your comfort zone to help your spouse goes a long way...definitely.

Even making sandwiches is an art!

Some avocado, tomato, lettuce, onions.. Then you add the sauce of your liking, tomato ketchup, mayonnaise, a slice of cheese and you have a base ready..
Then you can add anything to it, egg or any meat of you liking, pickles..and you have a fantastic snack ready...
You get avocado there. I tried local stores but they stopped carrying.

There is an easy way to bake cakes. Instant cake mixes are available in the market. All you have to do is add water, a little butter or oil, eggs, mix it and put it in an oven.
You can use all kinds of things as oven..Microwaves, electric ovens, gas ovens, even rice cookers.
