Do Women need protector in men?

I dont think so if it was the case hindus wont be seeking Durga and Kali as protector.

Durga and Kali were not Godesses per se...they were later portrayed as godesses....
thousands of years ago Women had equaly status as men..Vedas which are holy books of Hindus has Female author Gargi..

.
Depends really. For example think of families that are not that well off. Elder brother would start earning and can support the family, elder sister by the time she finishes studies and starts work, she ll get married and will go to her in laws.
Elder sister do the same...I've seen the elder sister supporting families working night shifts in IT/BPO/hospitals as doctors/nurses.

As far as guiding your sibling is concerned I sorta agree Elder sister can be a better guide to younger brother, than the other way round.
That do away the need of protector.

So i call this as male conspiracy to relegate women to lower standards so that they can feel superior to us.

Don't mix religious mythology and norms of the society people lived in...they are two totally different concepts.

As long as "the society" is male dominated ie. men are the sole bread winner of the family ..women of his household will remain his shadow.
When women become breadwinner of the family or share the burden equally (as it happens today) ..they become totally independent and do not require his protection.

And were the situation to reverse..ie men sitting at home and women going to work..in that socitey men will need women's protection.

.
Sorry if I sound like a male chauvinists, but yes, brothers, elder or younger, had been looking after their sisters traditionally in a society like India and Pakistan. It is only recently that the issue of equality on every front has been raised. Biologically and physically boys and girls are different. A girl, however elder she may be, can not take on goondas on the street. It's the boy who has to come to the rescue of the girl. Admit it.

unfortunately societies all around the world wide are driven by religion..

Social norms of society and culture sprout from religion only. Its the fundamental core of the society.

thats the crux of the debate.men made it male dominating to boost their egos.

Thats where society should move ie equality.

This too happens in present society even then men wish to over-rule bread winner wife.

come out of bollywood movie.can brother alone take up on goondas of the mohalla?no.

Right but parents do have preference.

Thats totally different issue. Here question is men thinking themselves to be protector of women folk as in father/brother/husband.

Same is true in case of men.

you goy it right at last.

If you live in a place where there is physical danger to a girl, a dude who can beat up your attackers would come in handy.

Every child needs protection, boy or girl physical and mental. Every woman does not need physical protection some might due to their situation, and if she was raised well as a child she won't need any other protection either.

Being protected is not a bad thing, even the machoest men, when in pain (physical or mental) will call out to their mothers.

With husbands and wives it doubly important to be able to lean on each other as they are your ultimate partners.

A protector can be in the form of your partner too, it doesn't grant the protector a role of superiority. Your husband can probably defend you from an attack, you can probably offer him some career advice/push. Both are forms of protection.

So basically you saying its two way street. You are taking the overall definition of a protector.Even a child can be a protector of elder or the pet dog which protect you day in day out.My question is not to challenge the meaning of protector. What i want to emphasis is Should men think themselves to be a protector of women as weaker sex?

.
Following thoughts arose after my conversation with Zaki last evening Regarding who should be the first child in Family-a boy or a girl.

Zaki was of the opinion that it should be the boy coz younger sister needs a protector in brother.

And my opinion was that it should be the girl.as girl being more caring and emotionally strong to guide the younger brother properly in life and protect him from vices.

I know its going to hurt male chauvinists.
The whole point arise from the line of thought that women are weaker sex hence need protection from men at every stage of life-first from father/brother in child hood then husband after marriage. This is typical thinking among men.

But as i see in life and history this thinking biased. With history taught us from examples of Rani laxmi bai to chandbibi to greatest spy of WW2 Noor Inayat Khan(Tipu Sultan's great grand daughter). All set an example disqualifying male Chauvinist.

From the my Godesses of hinduism like durg, kali were all fiercest fighters and protector of mankind.Even mordern times has shown iron ladies like Margret thatcher and Indira Gandhi to Benazir Bhutto.

So Why is that men think women need protector in men.-It can be debatable point on PDF

Sorry Zaki i don't agree with you here.

You're right, women don't need men. In fact historically women were hunters and gatherers, women plowed the field, chopped trees for wood, harvested the crops, herded the cattle, built homes from stone and wood, women fought in wars to protect nations, women were the pioneers in everything useful, women asexually reproduce.

Men just exist due to an accident in "evolution", we are no good for society, if it weren't for us, Earth would be a feminine Paradise without any problems.

Man, us evil men :angry::disagree::tdown:.

Well men are physically stronger...I guess thats why we are seen as "protector" or women? :/

Anyways , girls will definitely like the guy who will 'take a stand' for them , give them hope , and will act kinda 'protector' of them...

Girls are no less than men .... But I guess girls DO like men as 'protector' .... Many women like to see their men a little more 'dominating' during the sexual intercourse.....probably they like the 'feel of their partner's presence' ... :P

Plus : Every woman is different...every woman has her own choices/preferences..

Anyways...I'm out!

Chill!!

I think in good societies the question of weaker/stronger sex becomes moot. We don't have to arm wrestle to co-exist. We have to deal with bigger issues like paying the bills, saving for retirement, happiness, serving society, etc.

To answer your question - if there is a need men should not hesitate to protect anyone who is in need including women, but this should not turn into a body guard role as in buzz around them constantly.

Once upon a time I saw these guys harass some young girls close to my house. Now they were handling it very well, they were saying something the girls were giving some sharp come backs. I didn't intervene, however I just went closer to the scene and just stood there to make my presence known to the guys to ensure if the situation escalates beyond the verbal they won't have it so easy. When it went on a little further, I pulled out a cellphone looking at them which spooked them as they thought I was calling the cops on them and they drove off. I walked off without saying a word.

If you see someone carrying heavy groceries to their home, should you not help them out? For a woman the heavy lifting is obviously harder so men might be more inclined to offer help to her.

I can't comment for the men and women who live in cities where there is extreme danger to women, in those cases the usual thinking is jaan bachay toh lakhon paye.

Haha that's another touchy subject, women like us as protectors better, so men would definitely strive to be one.

Nonsense Cliche..Women historically too worked in fields and still do.

"Protector" doesn't mean "Gunda basher" all the time. You missed the gist of my post ....

Plus the girl in the story you posted was amazing. Salute to her!

He was referring to evolutionary roles of men and women.

Men DID act as "protectors" of women during our primitive stages...

Do you know why girls like 'physically strong' men (general rule..not all girls do..I know)? It has alot to do with our evolution as human species...

Are you a girl or guy? Sorry I don't know...

If you are a girl , I guess you feel that when men say that they are the protectors of the women , they indirectly imply that they are 'above' women since they 'protect' them ...right?
