Don't know about Pakistan or north India. DJ parties are now present in many Muslim Niqah's in Kerala. But, Deoband or Bareilvi seminaries or their fatwas means zero respect in Kerala, since they are all Shafi'ites.

Not the weddings I went to. These were colleagues in Saharanpur, and totally observant, to the point where there was a debate at the university about seating men and women students separately. I had to go and speak privately to the Chancellor, who got a shock and came down heavily, but the people concerned didn't change.

Those weddings were not pleasant affairs. Two others from Uttarakhand got married at the same time, and made up for all the deprivation. What a relief!

Do they have nikahnama? Who is authorized to validate the nikahnama? Is it kept in record at the union council or other local registration center?

Oh totally.

There are formal nikahnamas, performed by officially appointed qazis. I am not sure where the records are kept; interesting question.

Weddings are a time of celebration and people save money to spend at their children’s weddings or their own, so let them do it.

Ban music, ban dance, segregate the society between man and woman, ban love, ban jeans, ban western education, ban anything and everything.. but don’t force it on others.
