Diversion of US aid - Indian propaganda exposed

Please do not shoot the messenger. Just saying that it is from Times of India does not change the facts.

From the BBC link given above for your benefit

Mr Musharraf confirmed that the weapons were indeed used against India.

"We did right. What we did, we did right. We have to ensure Pakistan's security. From whichever side the threat comes, we will use the entire force there."

Mr Musharraf said he did not care if this diversion of aid angered the US.

This report in in itself is nothing to jump about but if you read it along with this

This is the first time Pakistan has admitted to diverting the US aid to strengthen its defences against India.

In the past, Pakistan's army has dismissed claims that aid from the US had been misappropriated.

Obviously if there is a war Pakistan is going to use all its resources whether the threat is Taliban or India. It is stupid to assume that Pakistan would not use US Made weapons in case of war with India and TOI gave nice spin to his statement. He mentioned that weapons are rotated through different units and of course we will use them against India if there is a threat from India.

Sir i think mushraaf done it yet again. 1st in 1971, then in 1999 kargil war and now. Its seems mr mushraaf bit against pakistan's intrest and for him his intrest comes first. Sir even mushraaf the one who braught america in pakistan and now america not going out. Sir i dont know why mushraaf said that just before pakistan was near to get aid. Strange all the way.

why the f*ck would Musharraf make some admission like this? He discredits himself more than he does Zardari.

by the way, a % of the aid is for military use ---so i dont see what the problem is. 99% Pakistanis will tell you that he/she doesnt want Pakistan to receive aid. It doesnt get spent on anything really tangible. But 99% Pakistanis will also tell you that defence of Pakistan is very important to us, especially when we have some immature, chest-thumping enemy at our east.

Compare the two scenarios:

1. Illegal: Pakistan says it wants to buy weapon X, but then quietly uses the money to buy weapon Y.

2. Legal: Pakistan buys X, uses it for the stated purpose, and years later, as part of normal troop rotation, the weapon moves to another location.

Musharraf's admits #2. India disingenuously imples that #1 occured. That is deliberate misinformation.

Like I said, if India wants to prevent Pakistan from obtaining weapons, that is understandable and GOI will do what it wants to do. But to lie and deliberately promote false information is dishonorable. Especially when it is done in an underhanded, indirectly way through the media, so the government can distance itself if the ploy doesn't work.

are u sure Gen (retd.) Musharraf was saying #2?????? I have doubts

. . . .
Ok so what if we did it? Big deal everyone does it. No one is angel here.

Yups everyone does it somewhere down the line. But no one actually admits it................ That is the problem.

If one accepts that he is a thief and a person who is doubted to be a thief are totally different versions.

Mushraf must have ball like grape fruit to admit that (sorry my language) but this guy is really gutsy.

A quote from Dawn:
Tharoor’s response came after Musharraf admitted that he had violated the rules governing the use of military aid, but justified his action, saying he had ‘acted in the best interest of Pakistan.’
DAWN.COM | World | US should monitor aid to Pakistan: India
We cannot decide what is 'legal' here unless we look at the terms of aid. As I said one country's legal is another's illegal. The only reference thats is binding is a crappy document called terms of agreement.

I don't think anyone misunderstood the degree of illegality here as you are afraid. Not Tharoor, not Musharraf not even the world. You seem to be thinking so. But I think the world is fair for Pakistan here. Only Musharraf sucked.:agree:

Mushy is just pissed and stressed cuz ppp is being a pain in his A$$ ! its all properganda ...

I like the way the Indians keep referencing the "BBC link".
The BBC has just copied the TOI assertions verbatim, and damaged it's own credibility.

Not that it had much to begin wirh.

So.. let me summarize popular opinion here -

1) All western media are nothing but puppets of the Indian media and have no brain of their own.

2) Direct quotations of Musharraf don't matter. As long as the source is from Indian or Western media, it can't be taken seriously.

Did I miss anything else?

As far as i understood he said that these weapons if need arises would be used agianst india . So I don't think what is the problem . the headline is an Indian interpretation and Pakistanis should be wary of it . But few Pakistanis might want to score some brownie points by saying that musharaf jeopardized Pakistans security .
