KARACHI:
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is disposing of stripped-down bodies of seven out-of-service aircraft, the carrier said on Friday.

Jets being sold include a Boeing 747, three Boeing 737 and three A-310 aircraft. The airline tendered its old aircraft for sale after they had completed their operational flying life.

Vendors, who are basically scrap dealers, have inspected the bodies and placed bids.

A tender notice announcing the disposal was published in national newspapers some time ago. “The entire bidding process was done with complete transparency. All aircraft equipment including engines, instruments and seats were removed before the inspection process.

“Even fuel and oil was removed from the aircraft leaving only a minimal quantity to keep mechanical parts lubricated,” it said.

None of the aircraft that were tendered were in flying condition.

This is a common thing with all airlines as far I know your scrap the old airplanes and take out the valuables

They should convert these to fuel Tankers for Pakistan Air force end of story

Refurbish the planes with US , funding for strategic partners
Get engines , get avionics upgrade and electrical components update

7 planes would be great as fuel tankers or cargo planes

Some old aircraft sold with brand new engines and recently upgraded avionics for a price in which you cant buy an expensive car in Pakistan.

What can you expect from a person who runs the airline without merit and solely because of his connections with the Sharifs!

do you have any idea of the cost of running these old lump of metals?
And the cost of upgrading them?
and whether they would break even and provide profits before their airframe is time ex?

No.

But I have zero trust in people making these decisions. PIA is a mess today because of people who run this commercial org without merit and because of political connections - now and before.

The guy who is the chief, Shujaat Azeem, has no experience running an airline and he was kicked out of air force after a court martial. This is enough for me to look at every decision with cynicism and suspect motive.

Thank you

Price of a new Honda Civic in Pakistan is 24 lakh. Now tell me, is this the price of an airworthy plane? No matter how bad its condition is.
