Well, it did have its distinct branch and called buddhism. There were plenty of sect in Hinduism and all of them are Hindus not Buddhist.

you need to look up the vajarayana buddhism in sikkim and tibet...and their resemblance to hinduism...

I have never seen a more stupid thread than this all my life. Whatever of us you see today is because of the warrior philosophy of mainstream Hindu dharma. From peace and contentment, our society had been reduced to non-retaliation and extremities of non-violence.

FYI A huge majority of Indian Buddhism in ancient days was in what is today Afghanistan and Pakistan. To all the dear Pakistani members;

Please get me the count of Afghan or Pakistani Buddhists today in real time statistics.

Or else, don't post such trash about stuff you don't know.

Well, that was the main problem that time. Buddhism was considered a sect of Hinduism of lower caste under Hindu kings. That created most of the grievences. They were not recognized under Hindus. You bear the same mindset after even 1000s of years.

I will make it simple for you just for your ease of understanding:

Mainstream Hindu dharma, Buddh, Sikh and Jain Dharma are to us just like how Sunni, Sufi, Shia etc is for you: One stem with different branching philosophies of the same core. You clearly don't know us enough to understand this.

The question is why Buddhism had to find its home all the way to Afhganistan but not at its birthplace. We were talking about pre Islamic history even if we take your logic that Muslim just buried them alive.

Well, actually Gautama Buddha was one of the many enlightened ones. If I explain the whole detail here about Vajrayana school of thought (mine), the thread will get digressed. Better you read up a bit basic online so that you've the base for our discussions. :). We do share huge similarities in our philosophies, you know.

my god...

do you even understand what im trying to say....you people have too simplistic mindset (maybe because your rigid abrahamaic religions).....for you its either this or that..

not for us...our religions are flexible and interconnected with the same core philosophies....

anyway why bother...try reading what a vajrayana buddhist (tshering) from sikkim says...

No, many Hindu dynasties like the Guptas,Satavahana,Harsha,etc,etc patronized Buddhism..

@iajdani

You attempt of establishing that Hindus and Buddhists did not get along, Buddhists were prosecuted against by Hindu rulers, and Buddhists were already extinct in India before the arrival of Islamic Invaders is not true.

Indian rulers switched religions between Hinduism and Buddhism since both being Indic religions and did not prosecute against either religions.

During the time of Guptas, Muaryas, Harsha, Palas they changed their religions between Hinduism and Buddhism but both religions were official religions of India. Even during the rule of Sena dynasty Buddhism was one of the state religion and they weren't prosecuted against but Buddhism in general declined since the arrival of Islamic Invaders and after the demolition of their universities.

This will offend people that are Jain, Buddhist, Sikhs..

Jains = practically indistinguishale from hindus....
Buddhist = distinguishable but same core philosophies as to not create a ruckus..(neo-buddhists or ambedkarites are a different matter)
Sikhs = has influence from hinduism and sometimes from islam...but still an indian religion again with the same core philosphy...extensive lintermarriage, linkage between hindu.sikhs..

no it will not offend anybody except those who dont know their own religions fully and are 'insecure" of being clubbed together with hindus...
