Diriliş Ertuğrul: Turkish views needed

That may be true, but arguing that it is art imitating life is no excuse. The ubiquity of alcoholic beverages on the screen normalizes it, and it should not be normalized. Not just because Turkey is a Muslim country, but also because alcohol is harmful.

Hollywood and mainstream American/British TV are guilty as sin when it comes to drinking. With all the Martinis he chugs in every second scene, James Bond would be barely able to walk straight, let alone drive at high speeds and fly helicopters.

I have never understood the double standards applied to alcoholic beverages and cigarettes. We seem to have recognized the adverse effects of smoking, but continue to promote drinking. It makes no sense.

For the record, I do not believe in a ban on alcoholic beverages in a country like Turkey. But I do think there should be limits imposed on its promotion.

Yeah I think its more like drinking will make it more acceptable in non Muslim audiences. The point I was trying to make earlier is that in some scenes, it seems like alcohol consumption is shown when its not even needed.

Turkish dramas have a big audience outside Turkey. Its very commendable. There is a lesson to learn in it for Pakistan. Turkey has population less than half of Pakistan yet they are more than twice as productive.
