Stats. are gathered separately and then they are compiled. Not publishing separate data shows inefficiency. And, not being a federation can not be an alibi for nonperformance and inefficiency.
Welcome to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics....they did their population count surveying each and every house...missed out Agriculture ministers house! She got furious and refused to accept the final count provided by BBS as accurate.According to her she feeds the country she knows the number of mouths to feed and it was higher than BBS.

Kolkatans are moving to Mumbai and Delhi just like people from Mumbai and Delhi are trying to move to London and New York. People move towards greater economy.
With that less people are moving in to Kolkata for developments in Bihar,Orissa and Assam. And that is a good thing, the Indian growth is now more spread out rather than centered across metros.

@Anubis Dhaka has a chance if Hasinadidi continues the good work! :D What is BD's GDP (PPP) btw?
SOmewhere around 2500-3000 I guess!
Dhaka would eventually overtake Kolkata as Bangladesh develops farther economically, and that is only natural with Dhaka being the country capital and priority number one. All showcase projects would ultimately end up in Dhaka.
That being said Kolkata at present is ahead of Dhaka, and outskirts of Kolkata are developing more rapidly than Kolkata. And Kolkata has all the basics in place- mass transport, important industries, planned suburbs, IT parks, world-renowned educational institutions. Dhaka should have to sort this type of things out before it can surpass Kolkata. And mind you Kolkata is growing as well and investments are pouring in albeit at a slower pace but still pouring in, because we have the base ready.

Dhaka has gone through a pretty rough life....it was the capital of Mughal Bengal....then neglected during British rule as Kolkata became capital of India....The Brits also destroyed its chief industry of Muslin...it has gone through a famine due to indigo plantation...after Partition of Bengal it saw some development then after annulment of partition it went neglected....After creation of Pakistan it saw some development in the initial period and then started to be neglected again...than it was ruined with a huge chunk of the population dead or displaced during the war...add mass famine to that again...then Zia started some development works and he was killed....Ershad started massive development work and saved a huge portion of the city from flooding...but then he was deposed...and now we have the two Begums!Compared to that Kolkata has had a much quieter and peaceful life.

Dude! Mamata didi painted all Kolkata blue and white!
Bengali women aint really fit for the job if we judge by the 3 shining examples.

Since reliable figures about Dhaka's economy is unavailable, and GDP(ppp) of $78 billion is an unacceptable figure for BD members, let's try to compare Bangladesh V/S Kolkata figures.

Country: Bangladesh - GDP (ppp): $347 billion - Year: 2012
City: Kolkata - GDP (ppp): $150 billion - Year: 2010

Interesting!! :D

That's nominal, not ppp.
Nominal GDP of BD was $153.6 billion in 2012. (Wiki)

1) He is talking about PPP, not nominal.

2)GDP of w.b. is $108-110 billion by 2013( 7.5% real growth or 16% nominal GDP growth YoY) with 9 crore population. Math below:-

6.7 lk cr/61=$110billion($1=61 INR )

GDP of B'desh is $115.6 billion by 2012 according to World Bank with 15 crore population.

What is the base year for WB gdp??We changed ours recently...its $151 bn(2005-2006 new base year) or $130 bn(1995-1996 old base year) in 2012-2013 FY.

What do you mean by base?
GDP in $=GDP in local currency of that year/exchange rate of that currency to $ of the year.

For WB,it's 6.7 lk cr/61=$110billion($1=61 INR )

When GDP is calculated it is not calculated at present price.Suppose you produce onions. If your country's base year is 2000 they will calculate the price of your onions(produced in 2013) as the price was in 200.The price of onion is definitely different now than it was in the year 2000.But when GDP is calculated the price of onion will be calculated from the year 2000 not 2013.This used so that they can track how much production is increased.

Here's the news that says BD's base year was changed:

World Bank has eminent economists. They publish data based on latest year. This so called "base year" is one country's internal calculations. International Organizations have their independent ways.
By the way, I need to see the calculation regarding number of commodities and price structure.Just go to World Bank website. You will get independent GDP data of your country from 1947 or 1971.

World Bank actually relies on the respective national bureaus of the countries for their data, not only World Bank, actually every such international organizations rely on them. India has been using the base year of 2004/05 and so is West Bengal. Bangladesh has just switched into the base year of 2005/6 from the previous one of 1994/95.
