New York: Dhaka will be the sister district of Silicon Valley. It is a new concept in the road of degitization of Bangladesh. Aziz Ahmad, a Bangladeshi-American expert in communication technology is now intensively working with the concept of Sister Cities International and is keen to work out a result of his action.

The issue was first unveiled at US Bangladesh Tech Investment Summit held this week in Silicon Valley by none other than Michael Honda, US Congressman of 17th Congressional District of California.

The summit was graced by the presence and speech of Mike Honda through a Skype conference as he was in a session in Washington D.C. and as such he was required to be there to vote.

In his Skype speech in the conference, Mr. Honda commended Aziz Ahmad, in particular for his work with Sister Cities International to help establish relationship between cities and around the globe.

Congressman Honda said, "I believe it is important we work not only on a federal level on bi-lateral trade issues, but also on a local state and city level to build linkages and educate."

"Cities I represent like San Jose, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Fremont and Newark all have worked towards pushing trade missions to South and Central Asia because they recognize that economic engagement starts with personal engagement."

While talking with Banglanews Aziz Ahmad, who also joined the summit along with few other high level delegates from the Bangladesh, said, this is a new concept of interrelationship between important cities.

On technology issue, a relationship between Silicon Valley and the city of Dhaka will be a worthy contribution to the process of digitization and development as well, he added.

Big investors in Silicon Valley have already expressed their interest to invest in Bangladesh. And the Tech investment Summit, held on May 07 at the valley will play a vital role to enhancing the future investment, Said Aziz Ahmad.

He hailed Mr. Sajeeb Wajed Joy, son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the founder of Digital Bangladesh Initiative for his overwhelming contribution to the process.

Sajeeb Wajed Joy also participated in the summit and called for more and more international investment in IT sector as Bangladesh is now fully prepared to invite such investments.

Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman took part in the summit and told the international investors about the government`s affirmative financial policies to welcome such investment.

Bangladesh ICT Secretary, Mr. Nazrul Islam Khan assured the potential US and NRB investors for his utmost cooperation in facilitating ICT training and offered office spaces in hi tech parks in a very competitive rate.

Mr. Anthony Spitaleri, the Mayor of Sunnyvale, said, the event is a starting point of many business collaborations and exchanges to come. Like Sunnyvale, Dhaka is a city of tremendous potential and business opportunities.

Dr. Joyce Moy, the CEO of US Bangladesh partners, who visited Bangladesh several times, compared Bangladesh as the economic growth witnessed in late 80s, 90s. Congressman Honda thanked Dr. Joyce Moy to work relentlessly in enhancing US Bangladesh economic relationship between countries.

Mr. Mitul Desai, Sr. Advisor, South east asia of US State department said, This summit is instrumental in enhancing the partnership between our two countries, the US welcome the opportunity to use the partnership dialogue to further enhance our close ties on regional integration, development of Governance, Trade, labor and investment and security cooptation

A new tie between TiE and BASIS has been established through the tech investment summit and we hope it will bring good results for Bangladesh. said AKM Fahim Mashroor, President of BASIS.

The summit was a helpful one and we should ensure a follow-up, said Aziz Ahmad, CEO of UTC Associates, a New York City based US incorporation of software development and ICT consultancies.

Mr. Ahmad is also the vice chairman of US-Pan Asian-American Chambers of Commerce, one of the associated partners of the tech investment summit, jointly organized by Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) and The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), US Bangladesh Partners, Agrani Bank Ltd, American Association of Bangladesh Engineers and Architects (AABEA) and Bangladesh Brand Forum.

The Silicon Valley has two distinct industries...one is the Chip manufacturing and the other is Chip Design. I think it is better for Bangladesh to emulate the Taiwan chip manufacturing model as an example as there is huge amount of water there and availability of port and transport facilities..This must be done at a much faster rate as India is also looking seriously into it. The first one to start the race always wins.

Very good news indeed. But oh god why Dhaka.why not syhllet?Bogra?barisal?

They just wanna concentrate everything in Dhaka, I guess... I suggest Bangladesh can be like India (I am not being in favour of India). Because in India everything is not concentrated in New Delhi. Mumbai is the business capital. Bangalore is IT capital.

They just wanna concentrate everything in Dhaka I guess??? They can make Barisal Bangladesh's IT capital since Syhlet is already a tourist attraction. Bogra can have some other stuff to work on. I simply think Dhaka has enough already. The government should start to decentralize from Dhaka. And the GoB should introduce more Computer Engineering courses in the universities so that graduates can enter these companies. No worries of being unemployed

Because other places lack necessary infrastructure. We have a Fcked up system where everything is Dhaka centric.

IF BD needs to move forward decentralization is a must and a planned one at that. There is no developed or most developing country in the world that are not decentralized. A country of 160mn can not do with a single city but needs a dozen like Dhaka or even better.

haha. BD posters still need that disclaimer, even when it is obvious. :chilli:

Districts other than Dhaka and Chittagong will be difficult for building new industries. One of the reasons is underdeveloped road/rly communications facilities. However, Sylhet can be a good location. So how about Sylhet-Silicon Valley sister city ties?

The GoB has only recently declared its decision to include IT in the HSC level. I think this is a very good step.

Another nonsense from an official with his head up his arse.

Why can't those clowns think of something more realistic and attainable rather than thinking Disneyland.

Dhaka already improved in it sectors by itself. Its now 3rd in freelancing jobs. Dhaka has many software farms and providing many fascilities in it sectors. But gov initiated to make high tech parks in gazipur, khulna, jessore, rangpur etc many places. So its not limited in the dhaka.
