DF-5 is going to be decomissioned soon

jesus!thank god DF-5 will get replaced soon!lthe pre-steps before launching a DF-5 is as complicated as launching a satellite rocket! it takes too much time to prepare! I don't think DF-5 would get a chance to be successfully launched before it is destroyed if China and USA went to nuclear war!

The original DF-5 needs to be replaced by the DF-41, but the DF-5B is fine, and it can still serve China for about a decade.

DF-5/DF-5A was replaced by DF-5B not DF-41. The mobile ICBM need be used in the second nuclear strike not first. DF-5 series DF-31 series and DF-41 series are different kinds in different positions of our nuclear power, they cannot be replaced by each other. Our nuclear power has been very diverse.
I think the newest DF-5B has been redesigned, which could be more powerful than the soviet SS-18 "Satan".

Those DF-5B launching silo are secret and buried deep underground which is accompany by many decoy launch silo. It is not easy to destroy them even by nuclear attack. DF-5B are absolutely capable of retaliation strike. I bet they can hold 10 MIRV warhead which can easily overwhelm US missile shield.

to my knowledge that DF-5B is not launched from silo, but is launched like this:

even though DF-5B is the first type of Chinese intercontinental missile equipped with multiple warheads before DF-41 is on duty, but it is still too antiquatedly enormous(like a satellite rocket) and fluid-fueled,which means it takes too much time and too many troublesome processes as preparation before launching, that's way too outdated,as a result of that it is hard for it to survive the enemy attack before being launched. so the sooner it is decommissioned the better

THis is just PR launching for more spectacular effect and let the world know China possess ICBM capable of hitting all parts of earth, if you dont believe check this out.

The PLA ordered the DF-5 development to be resumed in May 1975. China Academy of Launch Vehicle (CALT) modified the design of the rocket’s first-stage in order to improve its reliability. From November 1975 to January 1978, three consecutive launches of the CZ-2 were all successful. The first successful depressed trajectory (DT) flight test of the DF-5 with a modified Batch-02 missile was conducted successfully in October 1978. Six subsequent launches between January and October 1979 were all successful. Some of these launches were conducted from underground silos, suggesting that the missile was near ready for operational deployment. In November 1979, the DF-5 design team made breakthrough in the warhead heat shield technology.

the sooner DF-5 series get all decommissioned the better,I prefer China got its launhing platforms capable of hitting all parts of earth based in the ocean or on moving vehicles, not outdated ways of silos, and as for ICBM,the smaller the better,DF-5B is too big

Not really outdated. Their enormous payload allow fitted with up to 10 MIRV warhead that a few launch of these DF-5B will make US missile shield outdated. Imagine 30 warhead plus unknown number of decoy throw at New york city. You serious think US missile shield can gurantee not a single warhead can penetrate.

They are buried deep undergound and China possess the world most extensive deep underground nuclear tunnel. Which means US first strike cant killed off China nuclear weapon. They are many fake decoy silo and exactly launch underground silo are unknown to US. These DF-5B are really to retaliate and make US think twice abt striking China with nuclear weapon.

think about russian Yars which can also carry 30+ warheads and decoys, but how smaller and more flexible it is compared to big old rocket like DF-5B?that's why I so desperately want to see the day DF-41 is put on duty, and IMO I think we shoud stop digging tunnels thru the montains or underground,we shoud directly focus on developing submarine-based ICBM like JL series

China shipping lane are very restricted unlike the UK, Russian and US who have easy access to deep ocean. Unless China can reclaim back ROC who has easy access to pacific ocean.

IMO,land based nuclear strike is more relevant than submarine based deterent. At the moment, the best solid fuel, highly mobile ICBM will be DF-31A. It can carry at least 3 MIRV. Its small payload can be compensate by more missile and launched. Its is also not easy for US missile shield to handle a 6-7 warhead throw at a single target. Its range is enough to cover most of US. Its good to have DF-41 but not that urgent.

Df5b is a good big stick as powerful as ss18. Its liquid fuel can be stocked for long time and need not be refueled before launched.

The new liquid fuel can be preserved for about a year, so not a big issue anymore.

But the solid fuel is still more favored because its low maintenance cost.

The RS-24 is good, but it is not a heavy class ICBM like the DF-5B and DF-41.

And Russia's next generation heavy class ICBM is still going to be liquid fueled.

DF5B is not used as counterstrike tools. DF41/31 and nuke subs are used as the counterstrike force.

liquid fuel can make missle carry more and heavier warheads. it also can provide longer range than solid fuel.

Thus, DF5B/SS18 can easily carry much more warheads/MRV than DF41/DF31 and can be destroy more targets more precisely, because they usually are launched from silos.

Furthermore, either SS18 or DF5B has a range of 15000+KM.
DF5B/SS18 are used as "the initiative nuke strike" while DF41/DF31 are used as counterstrike tools.

Indeed, the DF-5 usually serves for the pre-emptive strike purpose.

However, the DF-5 can also use as the counterstrike when China infrared satellite group will help to determine the coming missile attack, and the DF-5 will quickly launch into the air before the enemy's missiles can destroy those silo bases.

DF-5B is the equivalent SS-19 Stiletto I think, probably has 3x3 MT warheads. That's some super scary shit.

True doomsday weapons that can destroy an entire country. The throw weight of solid fuel rockets is just too low when you absolutely, positively need raw power.
