RAHIM YAR KHAN: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif laid here on Tuesday the foundation stone of the Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said the university would be completed in one year at a cost of Rs3.5 billion. He said classes in the disciplines of electrical, mechanical and computer sciences would be introduced in September 2014.

The chief minister further said the university building would be state of the art and a steering committee would monitor its work on a monthly basis for its timely completion.

“Best Ph.D teachers will be appointed on merit.”

Earlier, Shahbaz Sharif spoke at the second convocation of the Sheikh Zayed Medical College (SZMC) in Sheikh Khalifa School Auditorium.

He distributed degrees and medals among position-holder students and inaugurated the new emergency and CCU wards and visited different departments of the SZMCH.

People faced difficulties as all hospital entrances were closed during the CM’s visit.

Development: Sialkot hospital to be upgraded

SIALKOT: Gujranwala Commissioner Khawaja Shamail Ahmed on Wednesday said the the government had approved the upgradation of the 400-bed Sialkot Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching (AIMT) Hospital.
He said Rs2 billion had been released under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for this purpose.
Talking to newsmen, he said several development projects budgeted at Rs45 billion were being completed in Gujranwala under the ADP by the government. He said construction of three medical colleges was in the final stages.
Later, the commissioner inaugurated the children’s park at Sialkot Fort.
He said renovation and rehabilitation of historical the Sialkot Fort was underway.
The commissioner directed the Sialkot TMA to ensure the fort was preserved.
He said the chief minister was taking keen interest in the socio-economic development and beautification of Sialkot. The commissioner said Sialkot would be made a model district.

Comprehensive plan chalked out for empowerment of women

Punjab government has chalked out a comprehensive plan for the economic empowerment of women in the province.

Under the programme, Punjab government is actively considering establishing a micro finance "Rozgar Bank” with mandatory targets of providing small loans to at least 30 percent women folk in the Province.

Punjab Skills Development Fund would provide training facility to 4,000 rural women of Bahawalpur, Bahawanagar, Lodhran and Muzaffargarh districts in the fields of agriculture, livestock and food processing, garments, textile and services.

Meanwhile, "Help Desk for females" in every Police station of Punjab will be established for providing assistance to women complainants.

Punjab needs to explore more land for new road networks and efficient system if transport...like linking Sialkot-Lahore Mototraway.

No doubt Punjab is getting the most forward looking ahead province of Pakistan which is also the bread basket for rest of provinces.
