Has this been confirmed or is this still just a conspiracy theory?

Where were you? Haven;t you keeping up? Certain members of the brass tried to quash the project. Then they tried to cut the number inducted. Then they tried to say the performance was subpar, luckily these guys placed a blackbox to prove the actual outcome. Then you forget how General Kapoor rushed a purchase for many T 90 before he left his position. it was rushed thru. The tank we signed up for initially was the bare minimum. Really a shell compared to what the Russians use in their forces.

Again you are asking for confirmation. When was the last time you saw confirmation on a scandal in India? What happened to it? What was the final outcome? Oh yea you cant tell me, coz court will take 50 yrs.

Awesome!! For sure the IA needs to order much more than 124 MK-2s, more like 5-600++.

This is unsubstanteted slander. At the time the T-90S was ordered by the IA the Arjun was nowehere near ready for operational use. The IA made a smart call by going for the T-90S as otherwise the T-72 and T-55 would have been the only frontline Tanks in service in significant number until at least 2016-17 if not later. As it stands the Arjun has not been churned out on the scale the IA would have liked- a 248 nos. order completed in 5 years? Not good enough.

Whilst the Arjun has turned out into a terrific tank one cannot claim the entire Arjun project was all plain sailing. When you look at the decsions confronting the IA top brass at the time of the T-90S order ie sit around and wait for the DRDO to make good the same old promises it had been making (and breaking) for 30+ years or go for an interim order of advanced T-90S tanks that would be able to match the ever increasing number of modern tanks being amassed on India's borders- you have to say the IA made the only sensible call they could.

Yes in hindsight it has all turned out okay but the IA Generals acted based on info they had at the time.

To say anything else or accuse certain IA officers of anything else is not just speculation it is immoral.

Sukna land scam
General Deepak Kapoor toned down the action against one his key aides, Lieutenant-General Avadesh Prakash who is one of the seniormost officers of the Army, against the recommendations of the Eastern Army Commander who had ordered the probe. After an outcry over the perceived “letting off” of a senior officer in the case, who incidentally retired. Antony intervened and directed the Army Chief to order a court martial to bring out the facts of the case. Avadhesh Prakash was found guilty and dismissed by Army court on 3 December 2011.

Adarsh scam
In October 2010, it was alleged that Kapoor fraudulently acquired a flat in the now infamous Adarsh Housing Society in Colaba, Mumbai, which was built fraudulently on the land under "de-facto" possession of the army, for the intended purpose of the welfare of Kargil heroes and their widows. This news brought a lot of adverse publicity to the Indian Army and dented its image. After this news was brought to public, Kapoor claimed that he cancelled his allotment for the flat

Only a moron would think corruption has NOT entered our defence forces. So many scandals come to light but get swept away. Seems you guys love living in a bubble. By the way does those actions seem moral?

As for the tanks issue, we are idiots to upgrade T 72's

Army to spend billions on outdated T-72 tanks

The Hindu : T-90 S tanks to roll out from Avadi HVF on January 7

We had enough tanks in our inventory. We could jhave waited a bit more. No need to rush. Our defence forces had crap for decades so why the urgent rush? Tech is changing rapidly in the field of countermeasures. It would have been wise to wait but for some reason right before General Kapoor left office, he sealed a deal for more tanks. Rigt before leaving office! Seems like a great way to make some money to park in foreign banks.

T 90s deal was signed before General Kapoor. Your logic is flawed. You state the number of Arjun tanks to be built was low and took too long well that is becoz the order was low. If the order was higher it would allow them the ability to create more manufacturing lines.

The blackbox in the Arjun was not some BS. It was a reality.

The Russian T-90S will form the mainstay of India’s future force, despite that tank’s performance issues in hot weather. That won’t change, but after beating the T-90 in a number of trials, the Arjun now has a clear future in India…

That appeared to close the book on a failed project, but opinion in India was sharply split. Many observers cited this as the final failure. Other were noting the problems with the T-90s, and the Army’s refusal to conduct side-by-side tests, alongside recent test successes that began earning the Arun some military fans. In May 2010 desert trials alongside the T-90S, the Arjun did surprisingly well.

The Army’s plan still calls for 1,657 T-90S “Bhishma” tanks at about 12 crore (INR 120 million, about $2.78 million) each if prices remain stable. About 1,000 of those are slated to be built in India by Avadi Heavy Industries, the same firm that builds the Arjuns. They will be joined by just 248 Arjuns at about 16.8 crore (INR 168 million, about $3.92 million) each, as well as 692 older T-72 tanks upgraded to the T-72M1 “Ajeya” standard. This overall plan changes the force structure proposed in 2006, from 3,780 tanks (1,302 T-90s and 2,480 T-72s) to 2,597 higher-end tanks.
