Yes, I have heard it a lot especially from Pakistanis and Indians. Banglais, etc I dont see to much of them to say. I am sure they do too, out side S. Asia.

Mostly its an Indian thing.

True. I did pizza delivery in college in the summers and Indians and blacks are the cheapest customers. Though it is not my opinion, all the white pizza guys say the same thing about Indians and blacks.

Bro, I think Pakistanis, some east Asians are cheap as **** too. I think a lot of immigrants are cheap.

Partly true, just add Pakistani's and Bagnladeshi's too the list.

I would also say, this has to do with prosperity, people who are hardly surviving or just got some money are less inclined to waste it.

i think over time the word 'desi' has become too indianized due to media and all; so therefore i personally stopped referring to Pakistanis as desis

'apna' works just fine....but that's just me, maybe some of my comrades disagree with me

At the risk of stereotyping, this is quite true, regardless of the neighborhood and socioeconomic status I've known waiters and delivery people in Oklahoma, Texas, California, Minneasota, NorthEast, etc. Always the same story...

Another stereotype is that Indians are frugal to the point of being stingy, while Pakistanis tend to live beyond their means just to show off.

We actually used to discuss this when I was in college Stateside.
Among Asian communities in the US, the best tippers are Pakistanis, Iranians, and Israelis. The worst are Indians, Vietnamese and Filipinos. Everybody else is in the middle or there is no pattern.

no offense to my Iranian brothers/sisters, but they are pretty cheap too

Pakistanis are the type who will tip well just to show that they can pocket the bill and go extra -even if it may be beyond his means....especially if its a nice looking waitress


europeans in general are the worst tippers; at least according to a colleague of mine who used to wait tables ......in EU countries, tip is usually included in the bill whereas in countries like US --you should ideally allocate 20% of the bill as tip --unless the service was shitty


and Pakistanis and any south asian in general will always act in public like they are 'owed' something and deserve only the best treatment among all patrons

Do South Indians are also referred to as Desis or only ppl from the Hindi/Urdu belt ?
