BANGALORE: The country on Tuesday embarked on a major mission in miniaturising missile systems by successfully testing a G3OM (GPS, GLONASS, GAGAN on a Module) receiver on the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. Developed by Hyderabad-based Research Centre Imarat, a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the G3OM receiver has been produced by a Bangalore-based private firm.

Sources told Express that it is for the first time that a G3OM receiver has been used in any missile worldwide. “It is definitely for the first time an Indian missile is using such a complex system and to our knowledge, no nation has so far tested it. This paves way for highly miniaturised missiles in future. The G3OM weighs around 17 grams and provides hit accuracy below five meters,” an official said.

Through G3OM receiver, the missile could take target acquisition from American GPS, Russian GLONASS and India’s GAGAN system at one go.

Combined with inertial navigation system (INS), a G3OM receiver could provide very high accuracies even without a seeker.

That move is quite smart, once the test was failed when GPS was 'wrong' during Obama's swerving in.

That is awesome. We are not dependent on seeker now. This will go into agni series as well. Agni will become an ICBM with anti tank missile accuracy. Great job and congrats!!!!!!!!!!!

If any one of the three systems fails, the other two systems can correct and mask the fault.

The TMR concept can be applied to many forms of redundancy, such as software redundancy in the form of N-version programming, and is commonly found infault-tolerant computer systems.

What do you intend to do with Nano missiles? Kill bacteria?

Do not go by mathematical meaning of Nano which is 1*10^-9. Nano means small like the word used in nano car. It is already on the agenda of India to make very compact missile with long range. We can certainly put this type of system on our compact missile. It will save a lots of space. We are aiming to build small missile with long range and can be fired in salvo mode.

NO they actually want to kill Tata Nano with their nano version of Brahmos.

Now @HariPrasad cannot say that a missile with NanoBrain -- it will imply a tiny brain / no brain.:p::D

I can certainly see why the word nano has so much relevance.
Still, a smaller system does not have to have nano in its marketing ploy.
A more relevant area of research before a GPS guided "nano" missile would be a MMW seeker for the Nag missile.
