Desalination Plants higher priority vs Oil refineries

The answer lies in initial cost for Solar plant setup is high for same amount of energy produced from Hydro or Nuclear Plants

Farms in Saudia 100% Desert Land

I said sustainable long term cheap energy. Who told you nuclear energy is cheap and its cheaper to build a nuclear power plant. I do not agree with you.

Hydro is cheap, but the associated losses for transporting this energy will also effect in long term.

Thirdly Building both dams and nuclear reactor takes alot of time.

Fourth Building up solar power plants today is not expensive. And i also highly doubt the cost energy relationship that you described for solar power plant. When you plan a project you consider alot of factors. It does not work just by drawing lines on the map. How do you plan to transport water with canals upstream ?(From karachi to nawabshah).

We constructed some solar plants and people don't know how to manage them , as they feel they don't want to hire labor to clean the solar pannels from dust they are ok to privatize it to own it privately for money making

  • DAM construction , need 10 Billion Dollar, long time to construct 8-10 years , and then loan repayment
  • Solar Panels farms give you 30% of energy for same cost , fast to build , but people and petro chemical lobby in Pakistan is against this form of technology, they claim dust on solar pannel will further reduce the solar panel production to just 15% vs Hydro production or Nuclear
  • Nuclear Technology not fully used for Industrial National Level projects you get abundance of energy from few plants (1-2 years you can make a nuclear plant functional
Hot item in Pakistan are

a) Road projects , for contracting and construction projects [Lot of chance to make personal profits the Engineering company hires cheap labor for trivial tasks]
b) Paving same road 3 times [Impresses people close to election]
c) Taking a train track and installing same old track 95th time
d) Bridges, rotating bridge , double bridge , circular bridge , chorangi , narangi , mosambi

Lets Look the DAM construction

  • Kala Bagh Dam has been in discussion since 70's never constructed ,whole country has waited for this golden goose dam for 40 years
  • Much discussed Bhasha Dam/Mohmand Dam still waiting considerable work

Desalination plants + Nuclear energy is a different direction for Country

Yes i agree. Lets say the mafia doesnt want it , Otherwise i dont expect such lame excuses of dust and inefficiency from anyone else and that also in a country where sun burns you 300 days a year. And efficiency depends on the correct type and quality of solar panel installation. But again kickbacks. There are movable machines which can do the job. The whole world is moving on to renewables.

Asal may bath dust ki nahi haramkhori or kamchori ki hay.

But Mafia is Mafia.

DAMs , solve 1 Problem (Water for Northern/Punjab Areas/Northern Sindh areas)
Prevention of Floods

  • Desalination plants + Nuclear Tech solve different problem , Desertification of Sindh land , and Baluchistan it helps the areas not reachable by Indus River

we are building the dams.

#DealWithIt

The Dams will no doubt be constructed however , we also need Desalination plants it is a reality we will soon have to accept

Pakistan has a 700 KM coastal zone , which is developed may be 0.05%
50% of Sindh is desert because , there are no canal network for water distribution

The DAMs will prevent flash flooding (fantastic)

But when you can have both Dam + Desalination water , you are only limited by your imagination what you can do with extra water and farming and extra food which can be exported to world

Desalination plant + Nuclear plant construction has may be 0% benefit to Punjab province
Their needs will be met by the DAM construction

But Pakistan will benefit from Farming done in Baluchistan and Sindh (Extra Money as a country) which will get distributed in budget (Indirect benefits to Province)

you are a human calculator.

what next?

hyperloop from gwadar to port of aden

A train would be nice along the coastal line between Gawadar and Karachi
Great source of Tourism money

  • Pakistan could form 5 new coastal cities between gawadar and Karachi
  • New city = New homes , New Homes = Growth and Jobs

Well we need to first be more efficient with how we use water in agriculture and in our homes. Flood irrigation is very wastefull, modern low pressure irrigation needs wider acceptance. Next is waste water recycling. Sewage can be processed to the point were it can be used for industrial and none edible (cotton) or fodder crops for animals. Just with this, you can reduce water use by 30%. Reverse osmosis desalination has improved alot but price per liter of water high so it's the last option.

Well desalination plants will quickly turn land into Farming and there will be more agricultural products which can be exported out

Water is the greatest incubator for farming

This is probably not advertised to the Pakistani public, but I hope our joint efforts for their water security pay divideds 8-)

I happened to be associated with one sister USPCAS-x a while ago. I do appreciate the technical and financial input but honestly the project has not delivered for what it was intended to. The Faisalabad one (Food) was shut down, the others are just arguing on how to best utilize the grant for their university needs, not bad per se but not what the initial project was intended for. However, I think those who extracted maximum benefit from this are really on their way to the top in their respective careers.

I wish you could learn something from China rather than building castles in air and implement those.

Pakistan can learn a lot from projects done by Egypt, Syria, and Iraq across the decades as they all have similar geography. All these countries have major and minor dams along their rivers. Remember that Dams provide both energy and water, both are essential.

Also the Benban solar park was built in Egypt just recently. I don't see why this can't be done in Pakistan.
