Deoband fatwa: It's illegal for women to work, support family

Ah... i can see where this is coming from.
in a muslim household it is male members' responsibility to take care of the family. but this only disallows the men from demanding a share (for himself or for the house) in womens' earnings.
here wat these ppl have done is reversed the logic. lol
very true........ Women was never forbidden to work however it is preferable for man to work and feed his wife and childrens.

Now it depends upon the family's circumstances if the man cannot bear the cost of his household i don't find any reason why women should not work

who are you to decide what I should do and what not? keep your advice to your self.

I asked a question because I wanted to know something that I don't know. did I do anything wrong?

i don't want to argue with you bro - you are a senior member here so PEACE

just want to make one thing clear this thread is highly sensitive for Muslims also and you are most welcome to ask a question but do not interefere in each and every post. Just ask and leave.............. you have 1000s of other threads to talk into - do not just try to ignite the fire (telling in advance) where two Muslims may differ to each other and we transform into another flaming thread :)

Maybe in your religion its personal, but Islam exactly teaches its followers how to wear clothes, what food to eat, how to bring-up kids, etc. Islam (for Muslims of course) is not just a religion, its a way of life.

Without moving into the realm of ' my religion' or ' yours', all I'll say that Islam like all other religions expects its followers to do right.

Do all followers of Islam do right or go by the book ? No.

Hence they to like all others exercise their right to selectively interpret or follow what suits them.

And Indians are too happy to support this kind of Mullahs; they even encourage these bustards to visit other countries so that they can project the most absurd picture of Islam to the world. Matter of fact, Deoband receives training and funds from RAW to continue their activities in the name of Islam.

come out of teh nut shell..stop blaming RAW for everything...i just wish RAW would be so efficient as is portrayed here..

as for the bold part so did MUkti Vahini, but i bet you will say that they were not responsible for Creation of bangladesh...

After seeing such things, how can you blame the people from other religions for discriminating against islam.. where in these jerks as in this stupid mullahs are discriminating against their own women.

All these things sounds bit ancient and primitive to me. However its nice that we large number of muslim organisations who have come out and criticised this fatwa.. Thank god we are in india. Where a moderate and progressive form of religion is followed along with some extimist ones ;) be it hindu muslims or christains..!!!!

qsaark point is very clear.

yes Islam wants us to do right but it also defines right for us and then expects us to keep our actions around those rights (depending on the situation) and not rights defined by someone else. eg: open baths (in the gym for example) is considered right here in UK but not in islam.

so before u do any right, u have to define right. for this either u specialise in religious sciences or go by what the scholars say.

ajpirzada seems to be correct. Like always, the media seems to sensationalize the issue and paint its own picture. The clerics in Deoband are certainly not well versed in handling PR or media.

The issue pertains to the problem wether it is cumpolsory for the wife to provide for the family. This is not required and if a wife is forced to do so it is wrong. In other words, a women can continue to work but earn only for herself while the husband is mandated by Islamic law to provide for the wife and children. The wife may or may not share in running the household and it is her choice.

I was pretty sure of a similar fatwa or weather women can work if they follow principles like wearing the hijab, not unnecessarily talking to male colleagues/flirting e.t.c. and it was permissible.

So earning for women/wives is allowed provided some principles are followed. However, forcing the wife to work or using her money say without her permission to run the household is not allowed as it is not her responsibility but the responsibility of the husband to provide for the running of the household

This fatwa, that fatwa. Bullshytt.

India is a secular country. No religion law holds here. It is time for uniform civil code.

These dadhiyal morons should restrict themselves to their places of worship.

Where are secular preachers????

Wrong, the fatwa against Shia being KAFIR was Issued from deobandi school of thought based in India

I have personally met some clerics from India (came to UK for TABLIGH) and were not even willing to listen me for a second and their one word "Shia are kafir" was more than enough for all my questions.

You are wrong, on many ocassions i have observed Fatwas from deobandi school of thought are first issued from India

I am talking about the Dar-ul-uloom in Deoband itself in its official capacity. Tabligh and Deoband are to seperate things. You don't have to be a deobandi to be part of Tablighi Jamaat or other way around.

They might highlight beliefs that may be considered as Kufr about the prophet himself. But just preferring Ali (RA) in itself is not considered as such. I have talked to some shias and they don't hold such beliefs such as Angel Jibrael made a mistake when revealing prophet hood so they would not be considered as kafir. But if there are some who do, then this belief is wrong and a basic negation of the second part of the Kalima.

I do not need a scholar to tell me that I should not lie or harm others or simply go by the book.

I should not need a scholar to interpret for me that my wife / sister should not work or contribute towards running the family.

i havent read to whole fatwa but the issue very much revolves around this.
its just typical TOI trying to sell the story at the cost of misleading the people.

well i have given u an example of wat exactly are we talking about here. there are things which are obvious and there are things which are not.

i dont want u to agree with me with the following example but only try to get the point.
now how is someone brought up in UK supposed to know that men taking shower together is not correct? or lets say how will the next generation know that men and women taking shower together is not correct? and wat about the generation after that?
everyone knows they need to take a shower to keep them clean but should this be done in privacy or in groups?
now this is where i need a line which is drawn for me by Islam.
